🔬🔥 Scientific discovery takes more than great ideas—it takes expertise, ingenuity and collaboration to bring them to life!

At The University of Toledo, scientific glassblower Eamon King is helping make that possible. He recently brought together 15 scientific glassblowers from Ohio, Michigan and Toronto for a two-day program connecting scientific research, industrial glass production and Toledo’s renowned glass art community.

Through partnerships with industry leaders, the Toledo Botanical Gardens Glass Guild and The Toledo Museum of Art, Eamon created opportunities to share specialized knowledge, showcase glassmaking techniques and strengthen professional connections.

🧪 His impact extends beyond the glass shop. Custom laboratory glassware supports the experiments and specialized research that drive scientific discovery. By connecting experts across industries and disciplines, Eamon highlights the essential role scientific glassblowing plays in advancing research while strengthening UToledo’s ties to the regional glass community.

What can polynomial equations tell us about geometry? What do symmetries reveal about algebraic varieties? And which powers of a holomorphic function are integrable? 🤔

Explore these questions and more during the Fall 2026 Shoemaker Lecture Series, featuring renowned mathematician Dr. Christopher Hacon of The University of Utah.

Hacon is a leading expert in algebraic geometry, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He also shared the 2018 Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics for his contributions to birational algebraic geometry.
