Children in The Maria Montessori School recently took part in a 21 day chick hatching experience where they witnessed how the chicks went from eggs to tiny chicks and took it in turns to hold them and pet them when they arrived!

Montessori education is about lived, real experiences like these, where children learn about animals and chicks in particular, in a concrete hands-on way.

This free of charge programme will provide parents and professionals with practical parenting strategies and advice on the home environment.

The young child is capable of independent activity right from the start. To nurture and to encourage this allows for the fullest expression of their potential – a true aid to life.

Knowing the how and the why will help us as parents and carers to recognise and so cultivate this natural tendency for independence from the very beginning. This will give us the tools to foster a truly collaborative relationship with the child in our care. Knowledge of child development will be covered as it will illuminate important considerations when we perform the daily activities, such as dressing, eating, toileting and sleeping; important rituals that given time, will grant us simple ways to adopt Montessori principles in the home.

Early Bird Extension - **Save £2600 when you apply by 31st May 2026**
Our AMI 3-6 Diploma is our most sought-after course - it is an in-depth and truly inspirational course that will enable you to guide children to become the best version of themselves and in doing so, you will feel extremely rewarded yourself. So many of our students have said that as soon as they read about the Montessori method of education, they instantly resonated with it. Montessori is all about creating the right environment and conditions for children to thrive and as an educator, there is no greater feeling that to see this all coming alive and seeing the profound effect it has on children.

Some boys in our Elementary classes (6-12 year olds) at the Maria Montessori School - Hampstead worked with our gardener, Riina to build a bug farm! Riina guided them on how to use a drill and screwdriver and they started off by ensuring all the nails where fully screwed in and then drilled holes in some of the wooden cubes so that bugs can crawl in and out. It's a work in progress that will continue in the weeks to come!

"An interesting piece of work, freely chosen, which has the virtue of inducing concentration rather than fatigue, adds to the child's energies and mental capacities, and leads him to self-mastery." - Maria Montessori

Children develop at different times and in different ways and are not meant to be stuck behind a desk all day, all studying the same subject at the same time, which is why children at the Maria Montessori School move from indoor and outdoor environments freely and regularly in accordance to their needs, interests and stage in development.
