London Film School runs five MA degree courses and a raft of short courses for over 300 full-time students from over 50 countries. As part of the MA Filmmaking programme, students take part in a storyboarding workshop, where they learn how to translate scripts into visual plans for the screen. ✍️

Used during pre-production by directors, cinematographers and production teams, storyboards help map out shots, camera movement, pacing and visual storytelling before filming begins. By developing these skills, students gain a deeper understanding of how creative ideas become cinematic reality, improving communication, collaboration and decision-making on set.

We were delighted to welcome T Level Media students from Acland Burghley School to the London Film School recently as part of our Outreach programme. 🎬✨

The students enjoyed a tour of the School, took part in a hands-on camera composition and lighting workshop led by current MA Filmmaking student Melissa Myburgh, and even had the opportunity to see a live student production in action at our Shelton Street studios. 🎥

Creating opportunities for local young people to explore film education and discover the many pathways into the screen industries is an important part of what we do. 🌟 We look forward to welcoming more aspiring creatives through our doors in the future.

📽️ London Film School’s 70th anniversary celebrations continue with the sixth strand in our archive film series.

We uncover the rich history of our student film archive with a new programme of films for June. This selection of archive films reflects the bold creativity, experimentation and distinctive voices that have shaped the school across seven decades.

STRAND SIX - DOCKLANDIA
The history of London’s Docklands is the history of London itself. Festooning the heart of the Thames with pulleys, cranes, and chains, the Docklands invigorated the city’s financial and industrial lifelines for nearly three hundred years. It is also a story of drastic social change - of the countless working-class lives caught in the economic and political repercussions of a rapidly modernising city.

From essayistic musings on the places we call home to the gallows humour of communities under threat from their own government, Docklandia is an archive of the Docklands’ final days: the domineering facades of vacant warehouses, and the defiant voices of those whose livelihoods would be irrevocably changed by a relentless campaign of urban renewal.
