The University of the Philippines Manila College of Pharmacy congratulates Frances Lois U. Ngo, RPh, MHSS; Camille Francesca T. Cadag; and Jan Redmond V. Ordoñez on the publication of their study:

Profiling Outpatient Medication Therapy Problems in a Tertiary Government Hospital: A Framework-based Analysis of a Patient Medication Counseling Program

The study evaluated the medication therapy problems (MTPs) identified during pharmacist-led patient medication counseling in the Department of Medicine OPD of the Philippine General Hospital. Findings revealed that a majority of counseled patients were practicing polypharmacy (76.03%), and each additional medication increased the odds of experiencing an MTP by 1.18 times. Overall, 71.07% of patients had at least one MTP, with adherence-related issues—particularly patients not understanding directions—being the most prevalent. The authors highlight the essential role of continuous, pharmacist-led counseling in detecting drug therapy risks and optimizing patient outcomes.

The article was published in Acta Medica Philippina, Volume 60, Issue 19 (2026).

FREE WEBINAR ALERT!

The UP Manila College of Pharmacy invites you to an online lecture on the Role of Leadership in the Culture of Safety.

Picture this: a staff member spots a near miss that could have harmed a patient, but stays quiet for fear of being blamed. 🤔 When people don’t feel safe to speak up, patient safety is at risk. A strong culture of safety, where every concern is heard and acted on, starts with leadership.

In this lecture, you will learn:
✅ The roles leaders play in upholding a culture of safety
✅ The traits that make staff trust their leaders enough to report concerns
✅ What makes safety leadership different in the Philippine setting

📅 October 28, 2026 (Wednesday)
🕕 6:00 - 7:00 PM
💻 Online via Zoom

Open to students and healthcare practitioners. Whether you lead a team or will lead one someday, this lecture is for you.

Hypertension prevalence in the Asia-Pacific region: a systematic analysis of population-based studies

The study synthesizes age-adjusted hypertension prevalence data across 19 countries in the Asia-Pacific region to project long-term disease burden through 2030. Its findings indicate that hypertension prevalence is rising across most of the region, with only three countries projected to achieve the World Health Organization's target of a 30% reduction by 2030. The authors emphasize the urgent need for policy makers to prioritize primary prevention, strengthen treatment systems, and implement consistent population-wide blood pressure monitoring.
