El Niรฑo is a climate phenomenon characterized by unusually warm ocean temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. In the Philippines, it can cause below-normal rainfall, prolonged dry spells, drought, water shortages, and reduced agricultural production.
How to Deal with El Niรฑo?
- Conserve water by fixing leaks and reusing water when possible.
- Save energy by using electricity wisely.
- Protect health by staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
- Practice climate-smart farming by planting drought-resistant crops and using efficient irrigation.
- Protect the environment by planting trees and conserving forests and watersheds.

Yolanda. Pablo. Ompong. We already know what these storms can do. But what happens when you add a warming climate to the mix?

UP climate scientist Rafaela Jane Delfino recreated them on a computer and discovered how their already intense rains could get even worse. Her reaction? โ€œSometimes, I really hope my model is wrong.โ€
