Celebrating the spirit of generosity, creativity, and inclusivity through Halloween traditions, Sorsogon State University (SorSU), headed by SUC President III Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, held its second SorSU Trick or Treat celebration on October 30, 2026, at the Sorsogon City Campus, offering a fun-filled Halloween experience for children from the University’s extension beneficiary communities and families of SorSU employees.

Transforming the campus into a vibrant Halloween destination, various University offices, units, and student organizations prepared creatively themed booths, welcoming children dressed in imaginative and spooky costumes for an afternoon filled with sweet treats and Halloween surprises. Student representatives likewise joined the festivities in their Halloween-inspired attire, adding excitement to the celebration. Children who stood out for their unique and creative costumes were also recognized and awarded during the event.

The second SorSU Trick or Treat celebration provided children with core memories of joy, togetherness, and belonging while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

True to its identity as the Pamantasang May Puso, SorSU continues to champion generosity, compassion, and community connection through meaningful initiatives that extend beyond academic spaces and bring the University closer to the communities it serves.

Sorsogon State University (SorSU) President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus joined academic leaders and researchers in exploring pathways toward sustainable higher education during the Bicol Foundation for Higher Education (BFHE) Annual Regional Scientific Conference and General Assembly on October 29-30, 2026, at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) in Nabua, Camarines Sur.

With the theme, “𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘌𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦: 𝘚𝘪𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘚𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺,” the conference addressed issues in higher education and explored opportunities for institutions to respond to crises, strengthen sustainability, and support long-term academic development. It also included a scientific forum with research paper presentations.

Among the attendees were Dr. Demetrio Anduyan, Jr. (CHED, Regional Office V Director); Bicol State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) Presidents; BFHE officers; school administrators; senior faculty members; and researchers. President De Jesus was joined by Dr. Teresa Haide R. Belgica (Dean, College of Health and Science), Assoc. Prof. Shirley G. Dicen (Dean, College of Technology), and Mr. Elden G. Orgela (Program Chair, BS Fisheries) at the conference.

Strengthening its commitment to service excellence and gender-responsive practices, Sorsogon State University (SorSU), through the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO), Office of the Gender and Development, Office of Business Affairs, and Food and Housing Services Unit, spearheaded a training on Service Excellence and Gender-Fair Communication in Hotel and Dormtel Operations on October 28, 2026, at the SorSU Dormtel, Sorsogon City Campus.

Attended by selected University personnel, faculty members, and concessionaires, the training is designed to further enhance service quality, safety and security, and guest and resident satisfaction in hotel and dormitory operations, as well as promote gender-sensitive and inclusive communication and practices.

The training features four sessions covering the Use of Gender-Fair Communication in Hotel and Dormtel Operations and Gender Sensitivity in Food Operations, discussed by Ms. Glady Joy M. Mella (GAD Coordinator, Sorsogon City Campus), as well as Service Excellence in Hotel and Dormtel Operations and Strengthening Food Safety and Sanitation Practices: Ensuring Safe, Hygienic, and Quality Food Service, delivered by Mr. Rony Angel D. Hentschel (OIC-CEO, Fernando’s Hotel).

Through lectures, group discussions, and practical exercises, the initiative sought to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in delivering quality, inclusive, and gender-responsive services to guests, employees, and students.

The initiative reinforces the University’s commitment to upholding excellence in institutional service delivery, advancing gender-responsive practices, and cultivating a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all stakeholders. (SorSU-PIO)

Fourth-year students from the College of Technology (COT) of Sorsogon State University (SorSU), pursuing Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, and Electronics Technology, underwent screening by Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corporation (SEMPHIL) on October 28, 2026, at the SorSU covered court in preparation for their on-the-job training (OJT).

The screening included a written examination and the Ishihara Test, administered by the company’s Human Resources (HR) personnel to assess the participating students as they prepare for industry-based training.

SorSU’s Industry Linkages and Development Office (ILDO)/Career and Job Placement Services, headed by Prof. Lelanie L. Berjuega, facilitated the initiative in partnership with Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corporation (SEMPHIL), strengthening the link between the university’s technology programs and industry training opportunities. The second batch of delegates from Sorsogon State University – Castilla Campus (SorSU-CC), set to embark on a 30-day agricultural learning experience at Dagam Farm in South Korea under the AgriQuest Student and Faculty Mobility Program, paid a courtesy visit to SUC President III Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus on October 28, 2026.

During the visit, SorSU President De Jesus reminded the delegation to uphold the University’s identity as the Pamantasang May Puso, emphasizing the importance of exemplary character, professionalism, and responsible conduct as representatives of SorSU. She further encouraged them to set a positive example for succeeding batches of delegates. Dr. De Jesus likewise extended financial support to the student delegates by providing them with additional allowances for their stay in South Korea.

The second batch is composed of four student delegates: Sandra Mae L. Coronado (BS Agriculture major in Agricultural Education), Domenic M. Llacer (BS Agribusiness), Claire L. Duploso, and Symon E. Rey (BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering), accompanied by faculty delegate Mr. Al M. Alcantara (BSAAS/AE faculty member).

The 30-day program will provide delegates with practical training to eco-friendly farming, fruit production, greenhouse operations, harvesting, sorting and quality classification, post-harvest handling, and agricultural product marketing, complemented by educational visits and cultural immersion activities.

Implemented under the existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between SorSU and Dagam Farm, the AgriQuest program highlights the University’s commitment to strengthening international academic partnerships, advancing experiential learning, and expanding opportunities for global academic mobility and engagement.

Sorsogon State University (SorSU), through its Intellectual Property-Technology Business Management Unit (IPTBM), under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Training (OVPRET), is expanding the commercial potential of its research innovations through the signing of four Technology Licensing Agreements (TLAs) with selected micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on October 28, 2026, at the SorSU Boardroom, Sorsogon City Campus.

The agreements authorized the participating MSMEs to adopt and utilize SorSU-developed food technologies, opening opportunities for local production, product improvement, and commercialization.

SorSU President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, the respective MSME representatives: Mr. Aldwin Jeryl O. Deduque (Owner, Tea’ra Food Hub), Mr. William G. Estil (Owner, Gapas Delight Food Products Manufacturing), Mr. Eon Miguel G. Giray (Owner, Cuptivated Coffee Shop), Ricah A. Buban (Owner, Richa’s Big Bytes Food Products), and Ms. Lourdes D. Pancho (Provincial Director, DTI-SPO) signed the agreements, formalizing their collaboration in transferring University-developed technologies into marketable products.

In her message, President De Jesus thanked the MSMEs and the DTI for their support and partnership. She shared that some of her research products remain available in the market and expressed delight at the launch of SorSU-developed products, including two of her own innovations: Veggie Cookies made from sweet potato, squash, and carrots, and Sweet Potato Fried Noodles.

She emphasized that research must go beyond product development and lead to commercialization. She also recognized the launch as an achievement in technology transfer, congratulated everyone involved, and assured the MSME partners of SorSU’s commitment to honest and productive partnerships.

With the theme “𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴,” the program emphasized collaboration between SorSU and its industry partners in commercializing University-developed technologies. Dr. Ana Cristina G. Fortes (VP for Research, Extension, and Training) and Dr. Noel A. Catibog (TTPD Director) delivered their messages while Engr. Ivy Rose B. Gonzales (Director, Research and Development and Project Leader, SorSU RAISE) discussed the rationale for the activity.

An audio-visual presentation (AVP) traced the University’s commercialization journey, and the participating licensees expressed their commitment to adopting SorSU technologies, with Asst. Prof. Jezzabie G. Gamis (Head, IPTBM) delivering the closing remarks.

Through this initiative, SorSU continues to link research and innovation with local enterprise development, promoting business growth and expanding economic opportunities in the province.
