Long before Portugal’s first licensed space infrastructure became a reality, the UT Austin Portugal Program helped ask an essential question: What would it take to build a national spaceport?

Through early feasibility research, continued collaboration, and a renewed focus on space-Earth technologies, the partnership has helped shape a new chapter in Portugal’s space exploration and strengthen knowledge exchange between The University of Texas at Austin and Portuguese institutions.

Congratulations to Thorsten Becker, professor at UT Jackson School of Geosciences, on being elected to the Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina for his work helping scientists better assess the forces shaping our planet.

He is just the third geodynamicist elected to this prestigious academy in its 400+ year history.
