Happy Spotlight Sunday! 🌟 Every Sunday we will be spotlighting our Greyhounds’ summer internships and sharing the valuable information they learned along the way.

Meet Luke Buckwalter!

Luke is a senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in History. On campus, Luke is involved in the American Politics Club and the Pre-Law Society.

This summer, Luke interned with the U.S. Department of Energy as a DOE Insider Threat Program Intern. He found and applied for this role through Handshake. In this role, Luke revamped an internal DOE Insider Threat Program website and created informative resources to strengthen DOE employee awareness of insider threats.

One piece of advice Luke has for students searching for internships is: "Be patient through challenges you may face, ranging from grades to getting a job or internship; if you put the work in, it is bound to pay off."

Meet Shea Kingsley!

Shea is a junior majoring in Communications with a double specialization in Advertising/Public Relations and Digital Media, and a minor in Marketing. On campus, she is involved in Student-Made and Relay for Life Club, and is a Graphic Design Creative Assistant at the Rizzo Career Center.

This summer, Shea interned with AAA Club Alliance as a Digital Marketing Intern. She applied for this position through Handshake. In this role, she designed real advertising materials, contributed to marketing campaigns, and developed a campaign pitch that she presented to the company's executives.

One piece of advice Shea has for students searching for internships is: "It is important to put a lot of time into researching the company that you are interviewing for."

Meet Nina Francois-Saint-Cyr!

Nina is a senior Biohealth major with a minor in business. On campus, Nina is a peer tutor at the Study, a dedicated member of Loyola's women's club soccer team, and takes part in several clubs, including Biohealth Club, Love for our Elders Club, Active Minds Club, and the Caribbean Student Association.

This summer, Nina interned with Johnson & Johnson as an Oncology Clinical Scientist. She found this job on Handshake, and applied in September. Her role was to support oncology clinical development activities within a cross-functional R&D team, contributing to clinical trial operations, and developing scientific strategy for investigational cancer therapies.

One piece of advice Nina has for students searching for internships is: "Don’t underestimate yourself. Even if you think you don’t check every box, still apply because you never know what can happen. Internships are for learning, so it’s okay if you don’t know how to do everything that the internship requires because they will help you."
