This week, Dean Gladwin had the honor of attending the ribbon cutting for the new Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine research and clinical care space at the University of Maryland School of Medicine with Ellen Myers, Vice President & Executive Director of The Kahlert Foundation (left) and Heather Kahlert, Executive Vice President of The Kahlert Foundation (right)!

Dean Gladwin helped launch the Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine in 2023 to combat one of the toughest generational challenges in healthcare today: substance use disorder. With instrumental help from The Kahlert Foundation, this state-of-the-art space will help create the systemic change needed across Baltimore and nationwide by bringing together leading researchers, clinicians, and community partners.

Together, we can advance evidence-based treatments, reduce stigma, and open new pathways to recovery for patients and families who need it most.

Dr. Levine isn't just a physician at the University of Maryland Medical Center — she's living proof of why the work done at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center is so important.

Today, she walks in the Maryland Half Marathon & 5K to support cancer research. Go Dr. Levine! 👏❤️

This week we cut the ribbon on the new Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine research and clinical space at the University of Maryland School of Medicine! 👏✂️

Established through a generous lead gift from The Kahlert Foundation and cooperative funding by the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the School of Medicine, this move for the Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine marks the start of a new era of pioneering research and clinical care in combatting substance use disorder.

This new space, led by Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine Director Dr. Kelly E. Dunn, will be a multidisciplinary hub where investigators share their expertise and innovative concepts to fast-track both fundamental and translational science studies in addiction science and medicine, and provide a fully integrated space for clinical care, clinical research, and educational instruction.

Thank you so much to Greg, Roberta, Heather, and Scott Kahlert, Ellen Myers, and the the Kahlert Foundation Board for making this possible!

Could prayer be a part of modern medicine? 🤔

Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine set out to find the answer — and the results may surprise you.

In a clinical trial of 180 adult patients experiencing moderate to severe pain or anxiety, those who received just five minutes of in-person prayer reported significantly more relief than those who listened to music. And those benefits lasted up to six weeks.

Even more interesting: it didn’t matter whether patients were religious or even expected it to work. The benefits showed up across the board.

What do you think? Would you be open to this as part of your healthcare experience? ⤵️ Share your thoughts below!

Big conversations are happening at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. 🏥

Our Clinical Town Hall brought together faculty, residents, students, and staff to do what we do best — listen, collaborate, and move forward together.

One highlight? The University of Maryland Medical Center is making real strides in reducing ER wait times through targeted operational reforms. Early results speak for themselves — wait times have improved by 50%, with patients now being seen in as little as 10 minutes. That's the kind of progress that makes a difference for patients and providers alike.

From clinical updates to open dialogue about the challenges we face every day, these conversations are what keep our community strong and our care at its best.
