The College of Science is one of the premier research and teaching colleges at LSU.

The College of Science is one of the major academic colleges at LSU, and teaches approximately 60,000 student credit hours every semester. The College includes the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology & Geophysics, Mathematics, and Physics & Astronomy, and the Museum of Natural Sciences. The College has approximately 228 full-time tenure-track faculty members, and 47 full-time instructors. The College of Science is one of the leading unit at LSU with regards to total grants and contracts; total extramural funding in 2009-10 in excess of $40M.

Congratulations to Dr. Daniel Kuroda from the LSU Department of Chemistry on being named the recipient of the Roy Paul Daniels Memorial Professorship in Chemistry!

Dr. Kuroda’s research explores how molecular structure and interactions define the properties of materials. By combining advanced laser techniques with computer simulations and theoretical modeling, his team is building knowledge to guide the design of new materials for energy storage, sustainable solvents, and proton conductive membranes.

We look forward to his continued contributions to materials research at LSU!

Our Executive Committee recently visited Louisiana Light Source to learn more about the facility, its research capabilities, and the exciting work underway through LaNeXT.

The visit offered a closer look at how Louisiana Light Source is advancing scientific research and creating new opportunities for discovery and innovation across Louisiana. We’re grateful to the team for sharing their expertise and giving our committee a firsthand look at the facility’s impact and future potential.

🎉 LSU Physicist Constantin Schrade to receive DOE Early Career Award!

Dr. Schrade, assistant professor in the LSU Department of Physics and Astronomy https://www.facebook.com/301832242285, is the only researcher from Louisiana among the 67 scientists nationwide named to the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2026 Early Career Research Program!

His five-year research project will investigate how changes in the microscopic magnetic patterns of altermagnets can steer electrons with opposite spins along different paths.

The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of this behavior and identify ways to test it experimentally, laying the groundwork for future spin-based technologies.
