A hundred (and eight) years past, and many more to come! 🍾 🎈

The I School celebrated two defining milestones in its history: 108 years since the launch of Berkeley’s first full-time program in library science and 100 years since the establishment of the School of Librarianship.

Generations of I Schoolers mingled, listened to talks about new research and the future of the I School, and enjoyed a beautiful dinner by the Campanile.

15 years after graduating from the MIMS program, alum Thejo Kote is paying it forward with a new fellowship supporting incoming MIMS students from India.

First recipient Sohamm Joshii (MIMS '28) expressed gratitude for the fellowship, sharing "that belief [in me] lights a fire in me to work even harder, maximize every drop of this opportunity... and master everything the I School has to offer."

This award will be granted annually in August and will be selected on a competitive basis by a review committee.

Congrats to MIMS '05 alum Hong Qu for his new position as the Doris Duke Foundation's chief technology officer, where he will be responsible for bolstering the systems, tools and practices the foundation uses for operations. 👏👏

"Hong’s sharp technical acumen combined with his profound facility with the ethics of technology systems makes him an ideal leader in a time of tremendous change," said Foundation President.

Congratulations to MIDS alumnus Michael Marks for his appointment as Chief AI Engineer at the Office of Data and Innovation! 👏👏

Marks graduated from the I School in 2016 and has been the Principal Lead Data Scientist at Analytica Consulting since 2018.

Congratulations to incoming I School Prof. Sayash Kapoor for being named one of MIT Technology Review's 35 Innovators Under 30. 👏👏

Kapoor was named an innovator in the field of artifical intelligence, where he "tests whether AI is living up to its promise."

Meet Jadda Miller, one of our new Bellwether Postdocs!

Jadda will be working alongside I School Professor Kimiko Ryokai and is looking at ways science education can enhance its relevance by connecting classroom learning with the complex social-ecological challenges that students experience in their communities.

In August 2026, Jadda Miller (she/her) began her position as a Bellwether Postdoctoral Scholar, working alongside School of Information Professor Kimiko Ryokai. We spoke to Miller about her interests outside of their work and what she was working on before joining the I School.
