Their internationally recognized research programs, which are supported by both federal and private granting agencies, fall within the department’s four broad areas of scholarship: behavioral neuroscience, cognition, perception, and social/ personality. Graduate training plays a key role in the department, preparing students for research and teaching careers in a variety of settings, including academia, government, and industry. The department is also dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education, and offers courses in the fundamental science of mind, brain, and behavior, as well as courses relevant for educational, clinical and counseling settings. Undergraduates also benefit from doing research in faculty laboratories, where they learn cutting-edge research techniques in a hands-on setting.
