A huge congrats to all of our Seniors as Thesis filming commences! Several shoots have already started and to begin out (naturally!) very key gram documentation- a huge thanks to Jay Rowell and Matthew for sharing some of the many moments from the last week’s set on OUT OF THE PICTURE 🎬🎞️🎥👏 We are so excited to see how these films continue to evolve, and love to witness the way this film department works together on sets ✨ Great job all!

It’s time to talk about the Mass Reality Check!
– the Salem Film Fest documentary shorts competition for college and university students 🎬👏🎥

It’s always inspiring to see the creativity and perspectives students bring to their work. For selected documentary shorts, there will be an in-person screening, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers in attendance. This year’s competition is made possible by our festival team and industry sponsors: Women in Film and Video New England (Women in Film & Video New England ) and Mass Production Coalition 🎥

Here are the rules and guidelines:

* Submitting is FREE! There is no entry fee

* All forms of documentary are welcome

* Entries must be produced by current students or 2026 graduates who live in Massachusetts OR attend(ed) a Massachusetts college or university

* Films must have been completed in 2026 (or 2027, when our call closes)

* Entries must be 20 minutes or less in duration

* No unauthorized use of copyrighted images or music is allowed

* Films that have been previously considered at past festivals will not be considered again, please do not reenter previously submitted work

* A festival badge will be provided to the director and/or producer of each selected film.

* Films are selected by SFF’s festival team and top three films are selected by a jury of industry professionals. A prize will be awarded to the top film by our industry sponsor.

* The submission deadline is Friday, February 12, 2027 ⏰

Hello everyone! The MPC Student Summit is on Friday, November 6th at UMass Lowell from 9:20–2:00

This event is for you! It’s a great opportunity to connect with the film industry and launch your careers. It’s always a fun day, and an important part of the MA Film community. Please plan to attend 🎬

Everyone received an email TODAY from Prof. Nash with a form to submit your information, and you must fill out that form to attend ✅

Deadline for the form is Tuesday, October 13th 🗓️

At the Summit, there will be a Career Panel, Networking Event and Pitch Fest with prizes! Lunch is provided 🥪

You can travel to the event on your own, or in a Lesley van. If you drive, you may have to pay for parking. You can take the Commuter Rail to Lowell, there’s shuttles from the train to campus 🚗

If you want to ride in the Lesley van, we’ll be leaving Lunder at 8:30am ⏰

If you want to participate in the Pitch Fest, more info will be provided soon.

Congrats to ᴍɪʟʟᴀ for being a finalist in the Minuteman Showdown! On October 14th Milla will compete downtown in a live editing contest judged by a panel of industry professionals, and we are all welcome to get our cheer on!
