In exciting news, a team of student researchers from Embry‑Riddle has advanced to the finals of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Gateways to Blue Skies Competition for the second year in a row.

As a result, they become one of eight teams chosen to vie for positions as interns with NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate in the prestigious contest.

Ph.D. candidate James Hand is breaking the mold by receiving the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE)/Stevens Institute Doctoral Award, which recognizes his research for its innovation and potential to advance systems engineering.

James works with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science to explore animal behaviors and strategies — such as how insects detect colony invasions — for potential applications in designing systems, such as drone and robot swarms.

Drawn in by its hands-on experience, Bridget O'Connell was interested in the Women's Baja SAE team since her sophomore year.

In her junior year, Bridget moved into the role of president and chief technical officer of the team, leading about 25 students in the design, construction and testing of a vehicle for national competitions.

For her efforts to revitalize the team, Bridget was selected for the SAE International Award for Outstanding Student Leadership in STEM. Great work, Eagle!
