The Facebook home of the concert ensembles of the University of North Texas Wind Studies Area.

The Wind Studies program involves over 500 undergraduate and graduate music majors and offers performance opportunities for majors and non-majors, in eight ensembles including the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Bands, Brass Bands, and Athletic Bands. The graduate conducting program in the Wind Studies Area offers degrees at both the Masters and Doctoral level. The goal of the program is to develop conductors for professional careers in performance and education through intensive study of literature and pedagogy. The rigorous and varied curriculum prepares well-rounded conductors for successful professional careers.

The University of North Texas Wind Studies presents three concerts next week!

On Monday, November 2nd, the Symphonic and Concert Winds perform a concert featuring almost 200 of our Wind Studies students. Next, on Wednesday, November 4th, the Brass Band will perform their second concert of the semester. Then, on Thursday, November 5th, the Wind Ensemble will perform their final concert of the semester. You won’t want to miss these events! All concerts begin at 7:30 PM Central. WIND SYMPHONY CONCERT THIS THURSDAY:

Come out and see the North Texas Wind Symphony perform a Consortium Premiere of James David’s Blue Riders: Concerto for Wind Ensemble. Composer James David has arrived in Denton!

On day one of his residence, Dr. David presented to the Music Now Composition Seminar and worked with the students in our Concert and Symphonic Winds. Throughout the week, our students will continue to collaborate with him through seminars, rehearsals, and a Consortium Premiere of his newest work for wind band, Blue Riders: Concerto for Wind Ensemble. Join us THIS THURSDAY (10.22.26) at 7:30pm as the North Texas Wind Symphony takes the stage again for their second concert of the semester! Under the baton of Dr. Andrew Trachsel, we welcome composer-in-residence James David with the consortium premiere of Blue Riders: Concerto for Wind Ensemble. The concert will also feature the music of Gould, under the direction of DMA Conducting Associate, Carlos Granthon, Hindemith, and the North American premiere of Chacona Amazonica, by Brazilian composer Marlos Nobre.

NORTH TEXAS WIND ORCHESTRA CONCERT THIS THURSDAY!

The Wind Orchestra will perform their second concert of the fall semester this Thursday, October 15, at 7:30 PM. The ensemble is conducted by Assistant Professor of Wind Studies, Amy Woody, and Graduate Conducting Associate, Eric Mills. We will feature composer Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri with his work for wind band, Khaen. Other works include Schuman’s Chester, Biedenbender’s Mosaic, Grainger’s Irish Tune, and Maslanka’s Symphony No. 4.

Tune in for a great night of music-making featuring our Brass Band conductors, Raquel Samayoa, Jennifer Oliverio, and doctoral associate, Stephan Naylor. Our program will feature Professor Oliverio as a soloist as well!

The North Texas Wind Symphony presents their first concert of the season, Homage!

Monday, September 21 we welcome guest composer Nancy Galbraith for a world premiere of her new work, Energy Shifts. The Wind Symphony will perform a version world premiere of Musical Journey for Wind Band by Gao Hong. Other selections include Paul Hindemith’s Symphony in B-flat, Chang Su Koh’s Ode to R.S., and Jan Van der Roost’s Homage.
