Mission: The Black Male Alliance (BMA) is designed to provide academic and social integration for self-identified Black Male students @ the University of Oregon. Our goals are to provide an affinity space for students to meet, engage and network with other students, staff/faculty & community members for the purposes of community building, academic enrichment and professional development. Engagemen
t: We want to encourage each student to make a commitment to their education by taking an active part in campus life and other activities. Involvement in campus life enables a student to develop leadership skills, provides opportunities for networking and collaboration. This is further supported by our peer-to-peer and peer-to-professional mentoring program. Enrichment: Post-Graduation success requires a student to master multiple competencies. We will provide students with seminars/workshops that foster critical thinking skills, financial literacy & effective written and verbal communication. These strategies enhance student engagement and academic achievement. Achievement: We want to provide an environment that cultivates overall student success. To this end, we will provide each student with a mentor to assist with the development of short & long term goals, and an academic adviser to ensure that student is making satisfactory academic progress. A retention specialist will assist each student with designing an academic plan that leads to persistence, graduation and post-graduate opportunities.
