TCU Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences Enhancing global health through education, research and innovation. Harris College supports the mission, vision and values of TCU.

Harris College houses Nursing, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Kinesiology, Nurse Anesthesia and Social Work. Graduates are prepared to think and practice as ethical leaders health care and educational settings. Students gain learning experiences in campus laboratories, hospitals, clinics, schools, fitness facilities, and community service agencies. The Dallas-Fort Worth area offers a rich a

rray of clinical practice sites. The on-campus Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic provides services for over 300 families per year and serves as a professional practice site for students majoring in speech pathology and habilitation of the deaf. Our graduates are competent, compassionate, and in demand in the workforce.

This National Nurses Week, we bring you a 2025 feature worth a second read.

In fall 1962, Allene Parks Jones, Patsy Brown and Doris Ann McBride became TCU – Texas Christian University’s first Black undergraduates. All three were TCU Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences students. The main campus wouldn’t desegregate for two more years.

Among those who followed: Eddie Bernice Johnson ’67, later the first nurse elected to Congress; Joyce Goff ’73, who spent 26 years with the U.S. Public Health Service; and Hortencia Laguna ’76, the first Hispanic nurse in Fort Worth ISD.
