Congratulations to Du Fei, History PhD ’24, now at the University of Oklahoma, for being one of the winners of the 2026 Oxford University Press First Book prize, for his monograph, "Local Women and Global Histories in Early Modern India: Gendering Economic Life, Law, and Islam".

Du Fei’s central insight—that the “local” household was a site of transregional economic action—challenges long held assumptions about mobility and agency, in this meticulously conceived project that will be important for scholars of gender, law, and South Asia alike.
