May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, our chapter proudly partnered with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated – Eta Chi Omega Chapter to host a Mental Health Summit at Progressive Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The event focused on encouraging open, honest, and safe conversations that support healthier families and a stronger community.

We extend our sincere thanks to all of our speakers and panelists for sharing their knowledge, personal insight, and professional expertise on mental health awareness, treatment, and the importance of seeking care. The discussions were meaningful, engaging, and impactful for everyone in attendance.

A special thank you to the planning committees from both chapters, especially our chapter’s Mental Health Committee led by Chairman Alfreda Jackson and Co-Chairman Calvary Sampson, for their hard work and dedication in making this event possible.

Congratulations to the 2026 Eta Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship Recipient, Jayvon Alexander!

Jayvon, son of Paula Thibeaux and Jason Alexander and a graduating senior at Breaux Bridge High School, has demonstrated resilience, determination, and excellence throughout his academic journey. Maintaining an impressive 4.16 GPA while balancing leadership, academics, and helping support his family is a true reflection of his character and work ethic.

At a young age, Jayvon experienced an unimaginable tragedy after a car accident claimed the lives of his twin brother and cousin. Though heartbreaking, that experience became a source of strength, faith, and motivation—shaping him into the young man he is today. Rather than allowing loss to define him, he has chosen to walk in purpose and make his family proud through perseverance and service to others.

Following graduation, Jayvon will attend University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he plans to major in Nursing and minor in Chemistry. While pursuing his degree, he intends to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant to gain hands-on experience in patient care. His long-term aspirations include becoming a dermatology nurse, with hopes of one day becoming a dermatologist.

Please join us in celebrating and recognizing Jayvon Alexander for his outstanding achievements and bright future ahead. 🎓
