What happens when you give students complete creative control? IMPULSE.

Each October, LMU Dance’s annual Impulse performance brings together students from across the university for a one-of-a-kind showcase during LMU Family Weekend. Entirely student-led, Impulse is produced, promoted, choreographed, and performed by students, offering valuable leadership and artistic experience both on and off the stage.

This year, audiences gathered at the Drollinger Family Stage to experience 20 dynamic dances created and performed by LMU students. With no audition process and no restrictions on participation, Impulse continues to be a welcoming space where dance majors and non-majors alike can build community through artistic expression.

Congratulations to our 2026 student directors: Morgan, Ellie, Delaney, Mia, Laniyah, and Lyrah. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s production an unforgettable part of Family Weekend.

🌟This summer, dance majors Kaylin Moore ’27 and Emma Shane ’28 were Arnhold Summer Fellows at the 92NY Dance Education Laboratory, where they joined a national cohort of dance educators, performers, and students for immersive professional development.

“My biggest takeaway was learning how to make dance education more creative, inclusive, and student-centered,” says Moore.

“As a neurodivergent dancer, the tools I learned in [the second] session taught me how I can be a teacher and mentor to the next generation by being the teacher I wish I had when I was younger,” says Shane.
