Ciruelo Cabral was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on July 20, 1963.
His formal art training was limited to a few courses in drawing and advertising design, after which, at the age of eighteen, he immediately found work in an ad agency as an illustrator.
At the age of twenty one he became a freelance illustrator and started a career as a fantasy artist.
In 1987 Ciruelo traveled to Europe and settled in Sitges, Barcelona, Spain. He then embarked on a search for publishers for his "worlds of fantasy", eventually finding them in Spain, England, the United States and Germany, reaching an international audience.

Among his US clients is George Lucas, for whom he illustrated the book covers of the trilogy "Chronicles of the Shadow War".
Ciruelo has also created a number of album covers, Steve Vai's The 7th Song and The Elusive Light and Sound being two of them. The Swedish rock band, The Flower Kings have also commissioned a painting for their album Adam & Eve. Other clients include Wizards of the Coast (Magic cards - MTG ARTIST PROOFS available. Please, contact us for prices), TSR, Berkley, Tor, Warner, Ballantine, Heavy Metal magazine, Pl***oy magazine, etc.
He's also worked with Alejandro Jodorowsky on a comic story published in France and in the USA in 2006. Another branch of Ciruelo's art is Petropictos, the Art of Painting on Stone, a type of art that captures the public's attention in exhibitions that tour different countries. He created this technique in 1995 which consists of painting on stones in that he is able to discover three dimensional images and create something halfway between a painting and a sculpture.
In 2003 he designed two dragons for the movie George and the Dragon.
Ciruelo has also illustrated the cover for the 10th Anniversary edition of the book ERAGON, by Christopher Paolini and, in 2016, did over 40 ink drawings for the Eragon Coloring Book. At the beginning of 2017 he was invited to be one of the judges for the prestigious contest Writers and Illustrators of the Future.

CIRUELO'S BOOKS

In 1990 Ciruelo illustrated The Book of the Dragon to be published by the Spanish publisher Timun Mas. Foreign rights to this book were sold to the prestigious publishing house Paper Tiger of London in 1992 who also published his first artbook, Ciruelo, in 1990.
In 1997 the book Luz, the Art of Ciruelo came out. This third book features over 160 full color illustrations, a number of pencil sketches and ink drawings laid out in 128 pages.
In 2000 his fourth artbook Magia, the Ciruelo Sketchbook was published.
In 2006 a special little book came out, Travels Notebook, with drawings and texts by Ciruelo.
In 2008 his book, Fairies and Dragons, was published containing many illustrations accompanied by a story written by himself.
In 2010, Dreams Notebook followed the line of Travels
In 2012 his artbook Infinito Interior was published featuring over 80 paintings (text in Spanish).
