Authored by Samuel Moyn, the The New York Times commentary “Older Americans are hoarding America’s potential” (April 27) "echoes a familiar — and harmful — narrative: that older adults are obstacles to progress, clinging to resources and influence at the expense of younger generations."

So begins "Counterpoint: No, America’s potential is not being hoarded," written by University of Minnesota (UMN) Long Term Care faculty director Rajean Moone, and published by the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Moone, also associate director for policy at the University of Minnesota Center for Healthy Aging and Innovation and a member of the Age-Friendly Minnesota Council, argues that "this framing is not only reductive, it also perpetuates ageism at a moment when the country can least afford it." z.umn.edu/counterpoint
