Even as a high school student from a small village in northern India, Nikita Sharma knew she wanted to experience Summer Scholars. How could a teenager from half a world away possibly know about CSUSM’s longtime program offering summer research opportunities? By applying the same rigorous research skills to her college search process that she ultimately would once she arrived in North San Diego County.
Sharma's work has paid off as she was awarded an $8,000 scholarship that supports undergraduate students pursuing STEM fields.

CSUSM's annual Context Exhibit Series on the third floor of Kellogg Library is a display titled “Voices on the Inside.” It’s a series of photographs – many of them outsized – in which women incarcerated in state prisons have been given a chance to direct their own self-portrait in collaboration with Lisa Loftus, a photographer for Poetic Justice. The portraits are inspired by a poem that the women wrote, giving them agency over their narratives. The free exhibit is on display through December.
