Our Latino Alumni Chapter is powered by volunteers who are passionate about building comunidad, creating meaningful connections, and keeping alumni engaged long after graduation.

As we wrap up our Meet the Leader series, we’re proud to stand alongside alumni leaders from affinity chapters across the CSUSM Alumni Association, all working to create opportunities for connection, engagement, and community.

✨ Meet Rodolfo Sanchez, Digital Media Lead for the CSUSM Latino Alumni Chapter! ✨

Rodolfo (also known as Rudy) is a proud CSUSM alumnus who graduated in Fall 2025 with a degree in Art, Media, and Design. Born and raised in San Diego, he brings his passion for photography, videography, and visual storytelling to the chapter’s digital presence.

💼 Current Profession Rodolfo is currently exploring career opportunities while growing his creative portfolio as a freelance photographer. He also volunteers with the CSUSM Office of University Communications, providing photography support when additional assistance is needed.

❤️ Why He Serves Rodolfo was inspired to join the Latino Alumni Chapter leadership team after seeing his role models step up and become leaders in their communities when a voice was needed. He is passionate about engaging alumni and helping create a more connected and impactful community for students, alumni, and the broader San Diego community.

💡 Advice for Current Students “Always take that one class that sounds interesting. You never know where it might lead. That’s how I changed my major and discovered my passion.”

⭐ Favorite CSUSM Memory Spending time in photography classes with friends while learning, creating, and having fun.

🚁 What’s Next? Rodolfo recently enrolled in an Associate Degree program in Drone Applications and Technologies to expand his creative skillset and portfolio through aerial photography, videography, and emerging technologies.

🎉 Fun Fact Rodolfo loves photography and filmmaking and is always looking for new ways to tell stories through visual media.

✨ Meet Rosa Y. Rodriguez, Vice President of the CSUSM Latino Alumni Chapter! ✨

Rosa is a proud two-time CSUSM alumna, earning her B.A. in Social Sciences in 2013 and her M.A. in Sociological Practice in 2015. Born and raised in Carlsbad, she currently serves as an Outreach Coordinator at the CSUSM University Library, where she has worked for 10 years, and as an Associate Librarian at MiraCosta College for the past 2 years.

❤️ Why She Serves
Rosa joined the Latino Alumni Chapter leadership team to help create opportunities for CSUSM Latino alumni to stay connected and to help plan events that are meaningful and relevant to our community.

💡 Advice for Current Students
“Get involved outside the classroom. Join clubs, volunteer, and take on leadership roles to grow both personally and professionally.”

Attending An Evening with Luis Valdez, founder of Chicano Theater.

🎉 Fun Fact
Rosa collects vinyl records and still has the 7-inch records she started purchasing as a teenager.

✨ Meet Alejandra Sánchez, President of the CSUSM Latino Alumni Chapter! ✨

Alejandra is a proud member of the CSUSM Class of 2003, earning her B.A. in Spanish. She currently serves as a Budget Analyst & Assistant to the Dean and has been a dedicated staff member at CSUSM for 23 years.

❤️ Why She Serves
Alejandra started the process of forming the Latino Alumni Chapter after recognizing a need for a space where Latino alumni could stay connected and engaged with the university. She continues to enjoy creating opportunities for alumni to connect, build community, and meet new members.

💡 Advice for Current Students
“Say yes to opportunities, get involved on campus, and build meaningful connections.”

Being part of the very first freshman class admitted to CSUSM for Fall of 1995 and still having the privilege of being connected to campus

Feliz Día de Mu***os!
May you and your families find comfort in remembering your loved ones—sharing stories, shedding tears, laughing together, exchanging hugs, and most importantly, being present for one another.
We’d like to thank everyone once again for joining us at last week’s Día de los Mu***os event on campus. Here’s a glimpse into the beautiful moments that unfolded later in the evening: each ofrenda was serenaded by the mariachi, followed by a powerful blessing from Aztec dancers. A special tribute was given to the altar honoring Professor David Ávalos—may he be rejoicing in peace. For those of us who had the privilege of taking his classes, witnessing this blessing was truly meaningful.
