Value-based care doesn't ask hospitals to treat more patients. It asks them to prove better outcomes, and that requires data most organizations are still building the capacity to use well.

Starting in 2026, CMS's Transforming Episode Accountability Model made this mandatory for 720 participating hospitals across five major surgical categories, with real payment adjustments tied to how well organizations track spending and quality together. And a 2024 HFMA survey found that only 1 in 4 physician practice leaders expected their value-based participation to grow in 2025, often because the metrics required for bonus payments are hard to meet without the right analytics in place.

For years, Rawan Alsaid Suliman's job was behind a pharmacy counter in Saudi Arabia, filling prescriptions and answering patient questions. She never planned on a career in healthcare technology.

But the clinical work kept raising a question she couldn't shake: what happens to all the information behind the medication, the patient record, the system that made each decision possible?

That question led her to USF Health's Master of Science in Health Informatics.
