Big news for Tampa Bay and for TCOP.

The USF Health Taneja College of Pharmacy will help train the next generation of nuclear pharmacists as part of FORGE, a $47.3 million federal investment to make Tampa Bay a national center for radiopharmaceuticals.

These are medicines that use radioactive materials to detect and treat tumors. Nuclear pharmacists prepare and dispense them, and they're a key part of theranostics, which combines imaging and targeted treatment.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At the USF Taneja College of Pharmacy, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the members of the USF Health Taneja College of Pharmacy community who are breast cancer survivors. We honor their journeys, acknowledge the challenges they have faced, and celebrate their resilience, strength, and courage. Through this recognition, we hope to foster awareness, celebrate survivorship, and remind our community of the importance of support, compassion, and hope.

We’re proud to spotlight a new publication from TCOP faculty members Dr. Kristy Shaeer, Dr. Raechel White, and Dr. Kevin Cowart, published in the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy on August 2026.

Their case report, “Thigh Abscess Following Alternate-Site Continuous Glucose Monitoring Sensor Placement,” details a methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) thigh abscess that developed after a patient with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes placed a continuous glucose monitor sensor at an off-label site. This case shows how pharmacists play a critical role in reinforcing appropriate device use, identifying early signs of infection, and coordinating interdisciplinary care to prevent complications.

The work also reflects strong cross-college collaboration between the USF Health Taneja College of Pharmacy and the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. Congratulations also to TCOP alumnus Tina Pham & Benjamin Lord, who contributed to this work.

Last week, Dean Zgibor led a group of TCOP faculty, staff, and students on a tour of BPI Labs. BPI Labs is part of Belcher Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company founded by the Taneja family. Our pharmily got a chance to look firsthand at pharmaceutical manufacturing and the industry pathways available to our PharmD graduates.

A huge thank you to Chandra Kasireddy, COO of BPI Labs and to Supriya Taneja for welcoming our team and giving us an inside look at the facility.

Experiences like this are exactly how we bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world — and we're grateful for partners who invest in the future of our students.

Dr. Boris Naraev is a gastrointestinal, endocrine, and neuroendocrine medical oncologist at Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute and Associate Professor of Medicine at USF Morsani College of Medicine. His work includes helping build one of the largest neuroendocrine cancer programs in the Southwest U.S. — and we're honored to have his expertise at this event.
