Catherine also serves as a contributor for SMU Look Magazine, an award-winning, student-run fashion, lifestyle and campus culture publication! Catherine shares how she got involved in the magazine and what it’s like gaining hands-on creative experience working on a fashion journalism publication.

From Cusco, Peru, to California, Fabricio Cavero Farfan (M.M. ’15) is exploring the many ways music can connect art, culture, and science!

Now a Ph.D. candidate at UC Irvine, Farfan’s work brings together traditional Andean instruments, modern technology, and scientific research. From conducting orchestras in Peru to developing experimental opera, his journey reflects the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and creative exploration.

Farfan credits his time in Meadows' music composition program with helping shape his multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with students across dance and theatre to expand his artistic perspective.

His story is a reminder that music goes beyond the stage, opening doors to new ideas, new discoveries, and new ways to connect!

On Oct. 21, SMU Meadows journalism professor Annette Nevins and her Writing Across Platforms class led the Flip the Frame Tour, a bus tour celebrating the people, businesses, and organizations making a difference in South Dallas.

Welcoming students from across SMU’s campus, the tour included stops at Ruthie’s Cafe, the WeCreation Center, the MLK Wellness Center, and the historic Forest Theater, along with opportunities to meet community residents and Dr. Terry Flowers, headmaster of St. Philip’s School.
