For OT Week 2026, we are celebrating our Occupational Therapists that make transformative impacts on people’s lives every day.

For penultimate Darwin-raised student Cara Doherty, this year’s theme Participation Matters captures exactly what drew her to the profession:

“Participation Matters focuses on the understanding that being able to participate in life is fundamental to our health, wellbeing and sense of belonging,” Ms Doherty said.

“I love this approach to healthcare, whether it be supporting someone to pursue their interests, accessing employment or connecting with their communities.

“As OT’s we can help clients’ bring purpose into their lives.” Ms Doherty said.

A fresh splash of colour has arrived at our Casuarina campus! 🎨

Our Arthouse Cafe is showcasing a new exhibition featuring incredible artworks from Karungkarni Art and Culture Centre, bringing First Nations art and culture into one of our favourite campus spaces.

Whether you’re stopping by for a coffee or exploring campus, take a moment to admire the artwork and the creativity behind it.

The Desert Rose solar car will be added to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory collection ☀️🏎️

Developed and raced by CDU students and staff, the Desert Rose solar car has been donated to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT), preserving an important piece of our engineering history.

The car represented the NT in multiple World Solar Challenges and reached a world record speed of more than 106 km/h during Sunrace in 2000.

For team members Steven Camilleri and Byron Kennedy, developing its drive system also helped shape careers in engineering and led to them founding metal 3D printing company SPEE3D.

Following a recent celebration of its legacy at CDU’s Casuarina Library, the Desert Rose is beginning its next chapter. MAGNT will preserve the car for future display, sharing the ingenuity and ambition of its team with generations to come.

From the Tertiary Enabling Program to Nursing and now Medicine, Scott’s pathway at Charles Darwin University has unfolded one step at a time. 🩺

Working in health sparked his interest in helping others. CDU’s Tertiary Enabling Program opened the door to studying an undergraduate in Nursing, where he discovered an opportunity to take that passion further through the CDU Menzies Medical Program.

Scott’s story shows how each step can help you discover what’s possible next.

Hair & Beauty WorldSkills Regional Competition 🏆

Congratulations to our TAFE students in Alice Springs who competed in the regional WorldSkills Australia Hair and Beauty competition earlier this week. It gave our CDU students the chance to compete for a spot at the WorldSkills National Championships, being held in Adelaide next June.

In the hairdressing category, Brandy Loechte took home first place after three rounds: cut and colour, men's haircut and long hair style up-do. 💇‍♀️

In the beauty category, Keeley Hansen won first place after completing three rounds: facials, day makeup and night makeup. 💄

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of Industry Skills Advisory Council NT along with our local judges and models who generously gave their time.

Congratulations to all the competitors for their hard work and training, and good luck to our students heading to Nationals next year! 🎉

Our hands-on courses are connected to the workforce, so students learn the real skills employers are looking for. If you're seeking something more, look no further than TAFE at CDU. Find more information at https://www.cdu.edu.au/study/tafe-courses

Everyone deserves to feel welcome, respected and connected at uni. 🏳️‍🌈💜

This LGBTQIA+ History Month, we’re recognising the histories, achievements and contributions of LGBTQIA+ communities, including the students and staff who help shape Charles Darwin University.

Learning is part of building a more inclusive community. In September, the CDU Student Council organised Sexual and Gender Diversity Training, exploring LGBTQIA+ histories, pronouns and what it means to be an ally.

Want to connect or get involved? Reach out to CDU Student Council to learn about the CDU Q***r Network.

Students can also request free Pride pins, badges and flags from the council’s Minus18 Action Pride Pack. Email [email protected] with “Allyship” in the subject line to arrange collection at Danala, Casuarina or Sydney campus. 🌈
