The University Galleries are located across three physical exhibition spaces.

Watt Space Gallery is situated in the NUspace city precinct in Newcastle and the University Gallery and Senta Taft Hendry Museum are located at the Callaghan campus.

Two Hunter region residents are among five writers shortlisted for the 2026 Fresh Ink Prize. This is the sixth year the festival has offered the prize, which is open to emerging regional NSW writers aged over 18. The shortlisted writers are:

- Emily Herbert, Tintinhull
- Michelle Cotterill, Cessnock
- Sue Fagan, Woonona
- Lorena Dionigi, Port Macquarie
- Shannon Benton, Dungog

This year’s judges were writers Sarah Armstrong and Raeden Richardson.

The winner will be announced at a special event on 31 October at Watt Space Gallery and will be awarded $5,000 for professional development thanks to the generosity of Newcastle w**e label Elephant In The Room, as well as a week-long residency at Varuna, The National Writers’ House. The prize is also supported by Create NSW

Artist Damien Frost has built an international reputation through his 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘴 series, spending more than 14 years photographing London's alternative q***r nightlife scene. Alongside the London portraits, the New Annual festival has commissioned Frost to create new photographs of our region's creative, q***r and alternative communities. These new works premiere alongside the NIGHT FLOWERS exhibition, marking the first time Frost's Australian subjects have been shown alongside his international portraits.
