The Saint Mary’s University (SMU) community in Bayombong celebrates its alumni from the School of Health and Natural Sciences (SHaNS) who passed the recent Physician Licensure Examination (PLE).

Before pursuing their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees at various prestigious medical institutions across the country, these 19 Marian alumni earned their foundational degrees under the rigorous academic environment of SMU SHaNS. Whether coming from Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science (MedTech), Pharmacy, Biology, their undergraduate years provided them with critical analytical skills, deep scientific understanding, and a commitment to patient-centered care.

SHaNS has long been recognized for maintaining high academic standards and consistently producing board topnotchers and high-performing graduates across allied health disciplines. This standard of excellence laid the groundwork for these 19 alumni to navigate the steep demands of medical school and board review.

The whole SMU community congratulates the Marian Graduates of Saint Mary’s University, School of Health and Natural Sciences. Their Departmental roots to becoming licensed physicians, their journey is a beautiful testament to perseverance, passion, and the heart to serve.

Once a Marian, always a Missionary!

Saint Mary’s University honored a total of 2,365 students for their academic excellence and dedicated service during the Recognition Ceremony for the first semester, AY 2026-2027 held on October 21, 2026 at the Fr. Cornelius Tonus Gymnasium. Among the awardees were 604 Academic Scholars, comprising 5 Gold Merit awardees, 136 silver merit awardees and 463 bronze merit awardees. The Entrance scholars included 13 with Highest Honors, 231 with High Honors, 629 With Honors. Completing the roster of honorees were 62 Latin Awardees, 437 Dean’s Listers and 389 service grantees from the different schools of the University.

The event featured an inspiring message from Dr. Elsa Cajucom, Director of the Center for Natural Sciences. Dr. Cajucom shared her personal journey from a financially challenged childhood to becoming a working scholar at Saint Mary’s University (SMU), eventually earning advanced degrees and pursuing further professional achievements. Her experiences demonstrate that humble beginnings and difficult circumstances do not define one's future. Through determination, hard work, and the support of compassionate individuals and an institution that believed in her potential, she was able to overcome challenges and discover greater opportunities.

She reminded the scholars to celebrate their accomplishments without measuring their worth solely through grades, awards, or recognition and encouraged them to continue learning, remain humble, persevere through setbacks, and recognize that every person's journey unfolds at a different pace. “As Marians, may we continue to be inspired by mission, driven by excellence, and guided by faith—trusting that even the humblest beginnings can lead to meaningful and extraordinary possibilities when we persevere, serve with love, and place our dreams in God's hands.” She concluded ……

The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt response from Miss Meji Fatima D. Gomez, BSTM 4, Gold Merit Awardee, “𝘖𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘧 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘴, 𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘺’𝘴 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.
