𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | "Ang pagdiriwang ng Ummong ay isang patunay ng patuloy na pagpapahalaga sa ating pinagmulan. Sa pamamagitan ng pagdiriwang na ito, pinapanatili nating buhay ang mga tradisyon ng ating mga ninuno na siyang tunay na pundasyon ng ating lahi,” Ma’am Fermila D. Guilan emphasized in her speech during the Ummong Celebration.
Beyond honoring cultural heritage, the afternoon celebration of the Ummong featured numerous activities such as Indigenous Games like the Arm Wresting, Tug of War, Bultong, and Palo sa Banga, allowing participants to experience traditional forms of recreation and camaraderie.
Meanwhile, a series of workshops and seminars highlighted the richness of Indigenous knowledge and creativity. These included “Puntudchuan chi Patawid chi O-ommod,” a seminar-workshop on Ifugao dance, gong, and attire, and a session on ethical newswriting with Indigenous voices, emphasizing the importance of representing Indigenous Peoples (IPs) with respect and authenticity.
Adding color to the celebration, the UMMONG Exhibit, organized by the university's different colleges, showcased traditional Indigenous delicacies, local clothing, and accessories, offering a glimpse into the diverse cultural identities and practices of IP communities.
Through these activities, Ummong served as a space for Indigenous heritage to be experienced, understood, and carried forward by the university. As students, faculty, and staff participated in the festivities, the celebration reinforced the value of preserving Indigenous traditions and recognizing the wisdom, creativity, and identity they continue to share with future generations.
