UPOU Holds ISO 9001:2015 Awareness and Internal Audit Training

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) conducts the first day of its ISO 9001:2015 activities today, 29 October 2026, at the CCDL Auditorium, UPOU Headquarters.

The day's activities include the ISO 9001:2015 Awareness for members of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and the opening day of the Internal Audit Training for selected UPOU employees. Facilitated by TÜV NORD Philippines, Inc., with Mr. Rodel M. Ancot as the resource person, the sessions build on the participants’ prior completion of the Awareness Training Course.

The program aims to establish a common understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and UPOU’s Quality Management System (QMS), develop a core group with practical internal auditing knowledge and skills, and strengthen the University’s capacity for process review, documentation, monitoring, and continual improvement.

These efforts will help prepare UPOU for its first ISO certification, with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (OVCFA) as the target scope.

UPOU partners with Teach for the Philippines to advance teacher development and quality education

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) formalized its partnership with Teach for the Philippines (TFP) through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on 28 October 2026 at the Audio-Visual Room (AVR), UPOU Headquarters, in Los Baños, Laguna.

TFP is a non-governmental, non-stock, and non-profit organization committed to ensuring that all Filipino children have access to excellent, inclusive, and relevant education. It focuses on improving functional literacy, strengthening teacher quality, and addressing persistent educational challenges at the system level. Through its core programs, TFP develops values-driven leaders who work alongside public school communities to improve student learning and advance education reforms across the country.

Through this partnership, UPOU and TFP aim to expand professional development opportunities for TFP teachers, facilitate their completion of UPOU’s Professional Teaching Certificate (PTC) Program, and develop supplemental short training courses to enhance teaching and learning within TFP.

How can civil society make its voice heard in regional decision-making? 🌏

As part of the ASEAN Studies Lecture Series (ASLS), this session will explore “Quiet Diplomacy, Loud Voices: Can Civil Society Be Heard in ASEAN?”

ASEAN has committed itself to being a people-oriented, people-centred community. But who actually gets a seat at the table? This session examines how civil society organizations, women’s groups, and Indigenous peoples enter ASEAN spaces, and how they are kept out. We will also look at the limits set by consensus, non-interference, and closed-door diplomacy. Finally, we will ask what it would take for the region’s quiet diplomacy to truly listen to its loudest, yet most marginalized, voices.
