The College of Physical Therapy of LORMA Colleges proudly celebrates the achievement of its alumnus, Mr. Franz Laurence O. Borillo, PTRP, CSCS, Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (BSPT) Batch 2019, who served as a resource speaker at the 1st La Union Sports Summit 2026, held on October 23–25, 2026, at the Speaker Pro Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Convention Center.
Organized by the Provincial Government of La Union, the summit brought together individuals and stakeholders committed to advancing sports and athletic development in the province. Mr. Borillo shared his expertise through his session on “Injury Prevention Through Conditioning,” highlighting the importance of proper physical preparation, conditioning, and injury prevention in promoting athletic performance and protecting athletes’ health.
His participation underscores the valuable role of physical therapists in sports and athletic development. Beyond treating injuries, physical therapists help athletes improve movement efficiency, build strength and endurance, optimize physical performance, and reduce the risk of injury through evidence-informed assessment, exercise prescription, and conditioning programs.
Sports rehabilitation is one of the many exciting areas of practice in physical therapy. It combines knowledge of human anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, therapeutic exercise, and functional movement to help individuals recover from injuries and safely return to sports and other physical activities. Physical therapists may work with recreational athletes, competitive players, sports teams, and individuals who want to remain active and physically fit.
Mr. Borillo’s achievement exemplifies how the knowledge and skills developed through the BSPT program can extend beyond traditional clinical settings and contribute to the broader community. It also highlights the diverse career opportunities available to physical therapy graduates, including sports rehabilitation, orthopedic rehabilitation, hospital-based practice, community rehabilitation, research, education, and other specialized areas of practice.
For aspiring health professionals who are passionate about sports, human movement, fitness, and helping people achieve their full physical potential, physical therapy offers a meaningful pathway to turn these interests into a profession.
