THE PRESIDENTIAL MACE
Similar to medallion, the mace symbolizes the governing authority to the university as exercised by its principal officers, especially the President. As an ancient symbol of authority, it is an icon that reminds the universities as custodians, both enduring traditions of learning and the power they bestow upon those who come to learn. It also represents the need to protect and nurture the search of knowledge.
The University Mace is made of wood in which the seal of the university is placed at its upper portion. The long lower wood that tapers down to the base is the primary part in which the mace is grasped, representing the responsibility of the President for the stewardship of the University at all times. The mace is placed at the Office of the President, near the right side of the President’s desk, which signifies the responsibility of guardianship and the perpetual service and protection of the University by the President.
