We're proud to recognize Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X College, and Wilbur Wright College for receiving the 2026 Highly Established Action Plan Seal as part of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. As National Transfer Student Week comes to a close, we’re celebrating students like Demetrious.

The South Side native started his college journey at Olive-Harvey College before transferring to Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he’s studying cybersecurity with a minor in information technology.

With support from Olive-Harvey’s Transfer Center, Demetrious completed his general education requirements debt-free through Amazon’s Career Choice program.

His advice to fellow City Colleges students? Work hard, use the resources available to you, and never be afraid to ask for help.

Community colleges are driving opportunity, economic mobility, and wellbeing in communities across the country, and City Colleges of Chicago is proud to be part of that conversation at the 2026 ACCT Leadership Congress. After welcoming visitors to Richard J. Daley College and Olive-Harvey College and celebrating a performance by adult educator Olha Tsvyntarna, Chancellor Juan Salgado and Board Chair Katya Nuques joined leaders from across the nation to reflect on the future of higher education. In his remarks, Chancellor Salgado stated: "Over the next 10, 15, 20 years, there will be no more important institution of higher education to drive wellbeing all across this country than our community colleges."

City Colleges of Chicago Executive Vice Chancellor Veronica Herrero gave the opening remarks this morning at the Fifth Annual Chicagoland Workforce Development Symposium. Hosted at Malcolm X College this year, the Symposium convenes leaders from across the region's workforce development sector. City Colleges of Chicago is a proud partner of the event, along with the Chicagoland Workforce Funder Alliance, The Innovation Nexus, Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, City of Chicago, World Business Chicago, Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, and Chicago Jobs Council.

Choosing the right transfer college can open doors you never expected. This National Transfer Student Week, we’re highlighting how Harold Washington College alumna Jade made the most of her college experience and found a path to a four-year university.

With support from her professors and Transfer Director Ellen Goldberg, Jade learned how to navigate financial aid, scholarships, and transfer opportunities, gaining the tools and confidence to continue her education at a four-year university.

After successfully transferring to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, she’s helping small businesses use AI and automation to improve their operations.

Davis Community Center alongside Mayor Brandon Johnson, Chancellor Juan Salgado, community leaders, students, and neighbors. This week is National Transfer Student Week! We’re celebrating our transfer students and the City Colleges faculty and staff who support them.

After decades of wanting to finish her degree, Kennedy-King College graduate Wanda enrolled in 2025, expecting years of coursework ahead. Instead, she learned she was just two classes away from earning her associate degree. With support from City Colleges staff, she graduated in May 2026 and is now pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Roosevelt University as a full-time student.
