When Debra Evans' parents made education a priority, they hoped to create opportunities their children might not otherwise have.

For Debra Evans, MS Engineering '85, that investment led her to become the first in her family to earn a college degree and eventually build a career spanning industries, companies and continents.

But her definition of social mobility goes beyond titles and promotions.
"You aren't supposed to stay in the same place and be bored; you're supposed to make it fun and contribute."

Today, as a global program manager at AbbVie, she sees growth as being willing to embrace change, take chances and use your talents in service to others.

Big news for UIC: Chancellor Marie Lynn Miranda has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, one of the highest honors in health and medicine.

Her election recognizes leadership and research with an impact on maternal and child health, along with her work advancing access and excellence across UIC.

How old is the Computer Design Research and Learning Center? A collaboration between Seattle's LMN Architects and local firm Booth Hansen, this building designed for our computer science, data science and engineering students boasts 15,000 sq. ft. of research labs and a LEED Gold certification for its environmentally-conscious design.

Not long ago, Jack Johannesson, BS ’19; Mark Anderson Marion, BA ’22; and Andrea Sanchez Gutierrez, BA ’23, were walking through UIC as students.
