As part of our AAPI Heritage Month celebration, we’re proud to spotlight Michael Suk, MD ’97, JD, MPH, MBA — an internationally recognized orthopedic trauma surgeon, academic physician, healthcare executive and national healthcare leader.

A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford, Dr. Suk has built a remarkable career by making an impact far beyond the operating room.

From mentoring future physicians and advancing complex fracture care to serving as chair of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association and chair of the Board of Commissioners of The Joint Commission, his leadership has helped shape healthcare and patient safety nationwide. His journey reflects the impact of service, innovation and lifelong leadership across every stage of a career.

Then and now: Jane Addams Hull-House.

Founded in 1889 by Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr, Hull-House became a hub for education, childcare and community support for Chicago’s immigrant neighborhoods. Its work helped shape the field of social work and inspired generations of advocates, educators and community leaders. In recognition of that legacy, UIC’s School of Social Work proudly carries Jane Addams’ name today.
