It is our goal to empower students to become successful leaders in the arts and creative industries. Business and Entrepreneurship students learn by doing.

We prepare students to be entrepreneurial leaders in the following careers: music promotion, distribution and executive production, international arts management, live entertainment and the performing arts, TV, film, radio, print, marketing, digital and social media, museums and galleries, professional and collegiate sports. They make connections with an active network of 3,000 alumni working for top arts and entertainment companies located in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and around the world. Columbia’s location in the heart of Chicago provides students with opportunities to intern and work for world-renowned companies while simultaneously earning their degrees.

This week, the School of Business and Entrepreneurship and Created to Achieve Success (CTAS .columchi ) presented THE HAUNTING, a haunted house experience filled with spooky surprises, thrilling scares, and Halloween excitement!👻🎃

From bringing the concept to life to creating an immersive guest experience, THE HAUNTING showcased creativity, collaboration, and the hard work that goes into producing an unforgettable event. 🕸️🦇

This semester BUSE Associate Professor of Instruction Sandra Kumorowski’s Creative Agency class has been working with the San Diego based company Navore, and a few weeks ago had the opportunity to fly out to California to get to know the brand in person! Huge thank you to Sandra, the Navore team, and the Driehaus family for this opportunity, the class is excited to continue their work with the information from their trip!

This week, Professor of Instruction Beth Ryan’s Introduction to Management & Entrepreneurship (BUSE 105) class was joined by 9x Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum producer and artist Marcos (Kosine) Palacios.

His career is a powerful example of what it means to keep showing up. From producer and musician to entrepreneur, his journey embodies so much of what we teach in BUSE, embracing creativity, adaptability, and the unexpected turns along the way.
He reminded us that a creative career is rarely a straight line. Through it all, kindness, resilience, and persistence matter. His story is living proof that it’s not about how many times you get knocked down, but how you choose to get back up.

On Tuesday, the School of BUSE had the privilege of hosting our latest Close Connections Series: "The Turning Point" with alumni guest speakers Emily Veldman-Hagood and Kelly Schmader.

From unexpected opportunities to defining career moments, we took a closer look at the journeys that shaped each of their professional lives into who they are today. The conversation encouraged students to embrace the unexpected, recognize the moments that can shape their careers, and stay open to discovering their own path along the way.
