Multiple storm systems are sweeping across the United States this morning, bringing lingering impacts from last night's severe weather outbreak. From the Southern Plains to the Gulf Coast and extending into Kentucky and West Virginia, widespread showers and thunderstorms are creating a wet morning commute and increasing the risk of flash flooding.
Today’s forecast highlights two areas under a slight risk for severe storms. The primary threats include damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall as a powerful weather system continues tracking east across the country.
Meanwhile, Arthur is moving inland across the southeastern United States, where torrential rainfall and flash flooding remain the greatest concerns. Residents across the region should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions and localized flooding. By Friday, Arthur could also trigger severe thunderstorms capable of producing brief tornadoes and isolated wind damage.
Looking ahead to the weekend, severe weather activity is expected to temporarily decrease across much of the U.S. on Friday. However, the threat returns on Saturday as conditions become favorable for severe thunderstorms across portions of the Plains, potentially bringing damaging winds, large hail, and additional severe weather risks.
