It was a privilege to welcome Dr. Michael Miller, Bessie Darling Massey Professor and Director of Johns Hopkins University Biomedical Engineering, to the Rice Bioengineering Colloquia Series yesterday.

Hosted by Rice Bioengineering and assistant professor Jessica Butts, Miller shared an engaging presentation featuring insights from his research on mapping the brain in Alzheimer's disease.

Congratulations to David Tsao ’17 on receiving the Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni Award at the George R. Brown School of Engineering and Computing Alumni Awards Celebration last week.

Since graduating from Rice Bioengineering, Tsao has transformed BillionToOne into a unicorn enterprise that touches millions of lives worldwide.

Under Tsao's leadership, BillionToOne has redefined possibilities in noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT). With the commercial launch in 2019, it introduced the first and only prenatal test that can assess fetal risk for common recessive conditions using only a maternal blood sample.

Tsao received his doctoral degree in bioengineering and biomedical engineering, working in the lab of Michael Diehl.
