Swipe through to see the dedication of the Heritage Garden!

This beautiful space on campus is a tribute to the women whose dedication, vision, and hard work helped bring it to life.

Thank you to Marie Price, Mariann McGee, Carla Eichman ’79, Susan Wetzel, Becky Kaskan, Janet Wolford, JoAnn McQuilkin, Barbara Thomas, and Karen Catalano for your incredible commitment to creating this special space.

The dedication was held this summer, where President Driscoll recognized the beauty of the garden and expressed the university’s deep gratitude to this extraordinary group of volunteers. A special tea at the Breezedale Alumni Center followed the dedication, where Jenn Dunsmore ’98, AVP for University Advancement, presented each volunteer with a beautiful fresh flower bouquet.

Drop a 🌸 if you're excited to visit the Heritage Garden!

🏈 To celebrate IUP’s first football game of the season against Ashland, we’re looking back through the years at IUP football!

Indiana State Normal School played its first football game in 1890 against the Greensburg Athletic Association. Among the players on those early Indiana teams were Irvin Lawson Fiscus and John Brallier, who would later become two of the nation’s earliest professional football players.

As college football evolved from informal, student-run activities into the organized sport we know today, some of these early players were already making football history.

👉Fun fact: In 1894, Fiscus earned $20 per game playing for the Greensburg Athletic Association—that's roughly $775 per game in today's dollars! The following year, Brallier was paid $10 by the Latrobe YMCA for a game, equivalent to roughly $370 today. Their earnings helped establish them as the sixth- and seventh-known professional football players in the nation.

John Brallier quarterbacked the 1893 and 1894 Normal School teams while still in high school! He's in the picture below with the 1894 team.

A little IUP football history to kick off the season! 🏈

Let’s go, Crimson Hawks! Time to make history!

This summer, the Black Experience Alumni Committee (BEAC) commemorated its fifth anniversary by hosting a cookout. The purpose of the gathering was to advance BEAC's mission—to advocate for and recommend solutions toward social and educational equity for students.

More than 30 students, alumni, and families enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship and hearing about what's new at IUP. We appreciate the work BEAC does to bring the IUP community together! IUP Black Experience Alumni Committee
