A Homecoming to Remember! ❤️

What a joy it was to welcome four IUP classmates back to the Breezedale Alumni Center this month! Suzy (Sager) Cogliati ’69, Maureen (Riffle) Doerfler ’69, Martha (Nicely) Shields ’69, and Nancy (Scully) Lorenzen ’69 reunited to reminisce about their college days, share memories, and reflect on the many paths their lives have taken since graduation.

The ladies lived together at Stone Manor and Elkin Hall (pictured below), and their visit marked their first time back on campus since graduating in 1969! They checked out the new dining hall, visited the Co-Op Store, and were most happy to see the squirrels and Elkin Hall, bringing a little piece of their college days back to life!

Their visit was truly their own Homecoming—a wonderful celebration of friendship, cherished memories, and the lasting connection that brings IUP alumni back together. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your stories with us! ❤️

🐈 Throwback Thursday meets National Cat Day! 🐈In 1951, a new Dean of Women arrived on campus with a master's degree in student personnel administration and fresh ideas about student life. At the time, she was only the fourth woman to hold the position, which was originally held by Jane Leonard, a campus icon. Her name was Martha Clippenger Faust, and, according to Charles D. Cashdollar’s The IUP Story, she introduced new ideas to student life administration and encouraged students to become more involved in revising college rules. Her approach helped set a pattern for additional changes in student life in the years that followed. Martha Faust, trailblazing Dean of Women—and clearly a cat person. 🐱 But here's the mystery: What was the cat’s name? Give us your best guess in the comments below. The University Museum at IUP presents Suite Américaine, a contemporary woodworking exhibition by Woodworking Professor and Craft Research Fund Fellow BA Harrington. There will be a debut in Sutton Hall—free and open to the public—on Friday, October 30, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Suite Américaine references an 18th-century French term for a furniture set while feminizing the word "American." If you can't make it to the debut, don't worry! The exhibit will be on display from October 30 through December 5 in the University Museum. Read more here: https://bit.ly/4ig9K6r

IUP alumni in the Indiana community spent Monday evening at Vocelli Pizza, the iconic location formerly known as Pizza House and Lefty Raymonds. 🍕❤

The evening included the opportunity to meet franchise owner John McNabb and sample a wide range of items from the Vocelli menu. John shared information about the franchise and discussed his vision for continuing a strong relationship with IUP and the Indiana community—offering weekly specials, partnering for university events, and maintaining hours to support the student community.

Guests gathered with old and new friends, shared IUP pride, and enjoyed a touch of nostalgia at the memorable Oakland Avenue location.

In anticipation of the theater department's performance of Cabaret next week, we're taking a look at theater on campus in the 1920s.

College students in the 1920s were eager to join student organizations, and the students of Indiana Normal School were no exception. The 1920s saw an explosion of student organizations such as Home Economics Club, Nature Study Club, Geography Club, and many, many more. This included several literary societies where students held debates, wrote speeches, discussed literature, and performed dramatic presentations for the campus.

Over the years, the literary societies came together to form the Unified Literary Society. This group focused on dramatics and performances. Professor Edna Lee Sprowls aided the group and helped direct two or three major productions each year, including a senior play and several one-act comedies. Theater allowed students to engage in creative, intellectual, and cultural experiences.

The Office of International Education has been hosting International Unity Day for 30 years, celebrating the cultures, traditions, and perspectives that enrich the IUP community. This year's event will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the HUB and is free and open to the public.

Local alumni and friends are invited to explore cultures from around the globe, enjoy delicious international foods, view traditional attire, and engage in meaningful conversations that foster understanding and connection. Stop by to join in the fun!
