Join us in revisiting 1994 as we celebrate 50 years of Concordia University Irvine!

Dr. Jason Neben ’94, M.A. ’07, came to Concordia University Irvine as a mathematics student-athlete driven to teach. The leadership, perseverance, and academic foundation he built on the court and in the classroom prepared him for a distinguished career in education. After completing his Ed.D. at Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Neben returned to serve his alma mater. Over his tenure, he has spearheaded initiatives in educational technology, eLearning, and academic innovation. Today, he serves as Associate Vice President of Data and Technology and Founding Chair of the Data Governance Committee. We're thankful for our alumni like Dr. Neben, whose dedication and leadership continue to shape our campus community.

At the start of this new academic year, we've marked a meaningful moment as students, faculty, and staff gathered in the newly expanded CU Center for Worship and the Performing Arts for our first chapel service of the semester. As the physical and spiritual heart of our campus, the refurbished space now offers 800 seats, enhanced lighting and acoustics, and a rebuilt Casavant organ to enrich our worship and gathering experiences. Gathering together in prayer and praise was a powerful reminder of the Christ-centered foundation that unites our university. At the LCMS National Convention this past summer, Concordia University Irvine President, Dr. Michael Thomas, presented his convention essay, “Christ Conquers Death.” Grounded in 1 Corinthians 15, Dr. Thomas reflects on how Christ’s resurrection is more than a historical fact; it is our active hope, the center of our faith, and the foundation upon which Lutheran higher education rests. We're back with our 50 alumni in 50 years series! As the daughter of Christ College’s founding president, Christine (Manske) Schneider grew up alongside the university. When it came time for college, Concordia was the natural choice. As a student, Christine found an incredible community, lifelong relationships, and an education that prepared her for a career as a Lutheran educator. She also met her husband on campus, and they’ve now been married for more than 30 years. Today, that family connection spans three generations. One of Christine’s children graduated from Concordia in 2025, while another is currently a student, continuing a family legacy that began with her father’s vision for Christ College Irvine.
