Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences Rutgers SEBS has its roots in science-based agricultural education. Page Policy:

We want you to share information, ideas, and opinions on this fan page.

Today the school has evolved into a center of teaching and research covering “organisms to ecosystems.” In line with Rutgers University's strong land-grant tradition, faculty members from the school pursue mission-based teaching, research, and outreach that address real-world problems, and encourage students to adopt the same mission-based approach to their educational experience at Rutgers. The school's undergraduate programs are designed to promote the multidisciplinary study of challenges facing society in areas that cover the biological spectrum from organisms to ecosystems, with an equal emphasis on the social and human dimensions of these challenges. Twenty-five bachelor's degree programs, many with areas of further concentration, are available to the school's undergraduates. Often, teaching, research, and outreach are done in collaboration with faculty members from various departments, centers, and institutes from throughout the university and beyond. The school's students not only have access to quality classroom experiences, but also the opportunity to participate with faculty in world-class research projects funded by agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the United States Department of Agriculture. They also have the opportunity to work with faculty of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station throughout the state to apply Rutgers' research to address local needs. On October 19, 2026, Rutgers University welcomed Vice Chancellor Chewang Rinzin and delegates from the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) to the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony.

Chancellor Francine Conway, Executive Dean Laura Lawson (SEBS/NJAES), and Dean Alberto Cuitiño (School of Engineering), joined Vice Chancellor Rinzin in signing the agreement.

Initiated through the Rutgers Department of Plant Biology (Rutgers Plant Science) and its connection with Mountain Hazelnuts (Mountain Hazelnuts) in Bhutan, this partnership brings together SEBS (Rutgers SEBS), SOE (Rutgers School of Engineering), Rutgers Business School (Susan Todd), and Rutgers Global (Rutgers Global) to explore opportunities for collaborative research, faculty and student exchanges, study abroad and experiential learning.

The visit also included discussions with Rutgers faculty and a tour of Cook Campus, including the plant tissue culture laboratory and Floriculture Greenhouse.

What started as a plant science connection has grown into a university-wide partnership. We look forward to the opportunities ahead!

Meet Rosy Andrade Cordova, SEBS ’29! 🌻

What began as a childhood gardening hobby has grown into a passion for plant science, sustainable agriculture, and community impact.

Through hands-on learning at Healthy Harvest, Rosy connects classroom knowledge with real-world urban farming while helping grow fresh food for the New Brunswick community. Growing marigolds and celosias also connects her to her Mexican heritage and the traditions of Día de los Mu***os. ❤️

Rosy is growing more than plants—she’s cultivating confidence, skills, and a future in agriculture!
