Student spotlight! Meet Ezaan Khan, a second-year osteopathic medical student at TouroCOM Middletown, who traveled to London this summer to present research findings by TouroCOM and Touro College of Pharmacy students and faculty at the Infectious Disease and AntiMicrobial Resistance (IDAMR) World Congress 2026.

The presentation highlighted research on sepsis and antimicrobial resistance, focusing on the study “Emerging Perspectives on Platelet-Activating Factor in Relation to Magnesium Levels at the Cellular, Tissue, and Systemic Levels in Disease States.” The work builds on a recently published literature review in CELL and reflects a collaborative effort among Touro students and faculty researchers.

Reflecting on the experience, Ezaan shared, “Doctors globally loved the ideas presented. Magnesium is trending as a novel supplement for insomnia and showing promise in combined treatments for a number of diseases and conditions. With more research and awareness, millions of lives can be improved and saved from a disease that permeates worldwide.” 🌍🔬

Alum spotlight! When Emily Messing, PharmD ’17, began considering a career in pharmacy, she imagined herself working behind the counter of a neighborhood drugstore, much like the independent pharmacy where she first interned as a teenager.

Today, she helps safeguard cancer patients on a much larger scale as a medication safety officer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Her journey, she says, was shaped by exploration, mentorship and an unexpected discovery at the Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP).

Graduation marks the end of pharmacy school, but for many Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP) alumni, it isn't the end of their education!

Instead, many spend another year in residency, joining medical teams in hospitals and health systems where they round with physicians, evaluate medication regimens, conduct research and take on increasing responsibility for patient care.

Student spotlight! Meet Rebecca Donnelly, a second-year student in Touro’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (PT) program, who volunteers with Transportation Resources Access (TRA), a nonprofit that provides free rides to adults over 65 with functional limitations and adults over 21 with visual impairments.

Rebecca's passengers have included older adults receiving dialysis and people living with lupus, chronic illnesses and mobility limitations. The work overlaps with skills she is developing as a physical therapy student.

“These are movements I may be helping patients with in the future. I’m learning how to work with people who use assistive devices and need help getting out of the house or into the car," Rebecca says.

Alum spotlight! As Principal of P.S. 272 in Canarsie, Brooklyn, Touro Graduate School of Education alum (class of '07) Verna Taylor leads a school community of more than 320 students.

Taylor's journey to a career as an educator began early. She comes from a family of educators, and by high school she was participating in a co-op program at a District 75 school, working directly with students.

Those experiences led her to Touro, where she pursued dual certification in general and special education. While balancing graduate coursework and preparing for motherhood, she relied on the encouragement of faculty members who believed she would succeed.
