The Palgrave Handbook of Deceptive Communication (2019) brings together more than 100 scholars from an array of fields to unravel the topic of lying and deception in human interaction. This interdisciplinary handbook explores historical and theoretical perspectives on deception, cultural and ethical dimensions of deceptive communication, and strategies for detecting and deterring deceit. Truth-telling, lies, and the many gray areas in-between are examined in the contexts of identity formation, interpersonal relationships, groups and organizations, social and mass media, marketing, advertising, law enforcement interrogations, court, politics, and propaganda. The Palgrave Handbook of Deceptive Communication is designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, academics, researchers, practitioners, and anyone interested in the pervasive nature of truth, deception, and ethics in the modern world.

Today Dr. Amira de la Garza presented "A Praxis of Courage," where she discussed the necessity to recognize, identify, and reflexively critique the presence of taken-for-granted codes for academic inquiry and research.

She continues her discussion tomorrow in a Postcolonial Praxis workshop at 4:00 p.m. in the Aronstam Library where all students are invited to reflect on living and enacting a post/de-colonial life.

Performance Ensemble: Creatives for Social Justice, led by Dr. Jeanine M. Mingé, has generated a new show titled Hollywood Bound. Through use of the absurd, multi-media, performance art, and movement-based techniques, Hollywood Bound critiques exploitation and manipulation in the industry. This show focuses on how racism, sexism, classism and heterosexism are mapped upon the bodies of those participating in the visceral and embodied experience of Hollywood. The machine makes the monster. The monster is the machine.

Come see this free show on April 29-30th at 7pm at the VPAC: Experimental Theatre
