Hello Wildlifers! πŸΈπŸ’§πŸ¦ŽπŸŒ§πŸͺ±

Last night was Big Night, that magical time in early spring when amphibians emerge to migrate to their vernal pools during the first few warm, rainy spring nights.

We were only out for about an hour, but the forest floor was alive! Every little critter seemed to be on the move. We gave a helping hand to those needing safe passage across the road and quietly observed the others doing their thing.

Always such a privilege to witness this wild migration in action. Thank you to everyone who came out with us! We hope you guys had a blast!

Hi Wildliders! πŸžπŸ«ŽπŸ›Άβ›°οΈ

We hope everyone is having a fantastic spring break! Last week, our members came together to take a stand against the injustices unfolding in the White House. Each member chose a topic close to their heart and wrote a postcard to our senators, making sure our voices are heard where it matters most.

This year has been challenging for those of us who care deeply about wildlife, national parks, and environmental protections. But by speaking up and taking action, we can make a difference. Advocacy starts with small steps, whether it's writing to our representatives, raising awareness, or participating in conservation efforts.

Enjoy the rest of your break, and we’ll see you when we get back!

The UMaine Wildlife Society spent this Saturday volunteering at Hirundo! We helped clean out their duck boxes and take down the broken ones. Members had a blast paddling in the beautiful weather and had the chance to see some cool wildlife. Duck boxes provide cover and shelter for eggs, which helps increase populations, and they offer a safe place for hens to nest, providing relative safety from predators. It's important to continuously maintain these boxes, as they can become weathered, and if not cleaned out, they attract avian mites, which are extremely harmful to chicks.

Thanks to everyone who joined us and participated in helping Hirundo, and thank you to Hirundo for having us!
