Professor Serena Mayeri has been awarded the 2026 Law and Society Association J. Willard Hurst Book Prize for her acclaimed book Marital Privilege: Marriage, Inequality, and the Transformation of American Law.

The J. William Hurst Prize, which is among the most distinguished honors in the field, recognizes exceptional scholarship exploring the relationship between law and society.

Celebrating excellence in teaching at Penn Carey Law!

At commencement, Ashonti Farrior L’26 presented the Harvey Levin Memorial Teaching Award to David Skeel, S. Samuel Arsht Professor of Corporate Law.

Marko Skraba LLM’26, LLM Class President and Kübler Scholar, presented the LLM Teaching Award to William Ewald, John J. O’Brien Professor of Comparative and International Law, Professor of Philosophy, and Co-Director of the Institute of Law & Philosophy.

We’re proud to recognize our 2025–26 Faculty Teaching Award recipients for the passion, creativity, and dedication they bring to the classroom each day.

Robert H. Mundheim, University Professor of Law and Finance Emeritus and former Dean of Penn Carey Law, received the University in Exile Award from The New School for Social Research.

The honor recognizes a lifetime of leadership in law, public service, and higher education—and carries special significance given his experience as a child refugee from N**i Germany.

Fourth-year Penn student Rafaella Lambrinos reflects on her undergraduate research examining British rationing and the Bengal famine during World War II in a recent feature from Penn Today.

This fall, she will join the Penn Carey Law community.

“I’m excited about the prospect of using the skills I’ve developed over the last four years to help solve complicated legal problems in an ever-evolving legal landscape,” Lambrinos says.
