The Nina Henderson Provost Scholars Program, launched in the fall of 2021, is an annual scholarship program that provides up to 12 motivated Drexel students with the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and play a hands-on role in shaping the Drexel University experience.

Drawing on their varied backgrounds, disciplines and perspectives, Nina Henderson Provost Scholars work alongside the Provost and Provost’s Office leadership to advance key priorities of the Drexel 2030 Strategic Plan and collaborate on strategic projects. The program is made possible by support from Nina Henderson, Chair of the Academic Affair Committee of the Board of Trustees, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and Drexel alumna.

The 2026-2027 cohort of Nina Henderson Provost Scholars includes College of Arts and Sciences students Miles Levesque, BA Environmental Studies and Sustainability '29, and Sumeet Musfirah, BS Psychology '28.

Saint Rita's visit to Drexel University was featured in WHYY! Last week, the MFA in Creative Writing program welcomed the traveling bookstore to campus as part of its First-Year Residency, allowing students throughout the Drexel community to browse and purchase books.

“Our students are hungry for physical books,” Nomi Eve, author and director of the MFA program, told WHYY. “Our students want to read books, talk about them with their friends. I know that it’s a wider problem out there, but we’re not seeing it here, which is a beautiful thing.”

Drexel's School of Education celebrated the launch of the ALLIED Hub on Friday 10/16.

This new literacy initiative and its physical space on campus are supported by significant investments and collaboration from a broad network of supporters, national literacy experts and community partners. Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Education notified Drexel that its School of Education in the College of Arts and Sciences had been awarded a $3.3 million Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) Grant.

Drexel University's MFA in Creative Writing program welcomed St. Rita's Amazing Traveling Bookstore and Textual Apothecary to campus this week!

Owned and operated by Rita Collins, Saint Rita's has earned national attention for its unique mission of bringing books directly to readers through a mobile bookstore housed in a customized van. During its visit to Drexel, students, faculty, staff and members of the public had the opportunity to browse and purchase books directly from the traveling bookstore.

The visit was part of the Drexel MFA in Creative Writing First-Year Residency, an immersive educational experience that combines literary craft with hands-on professional development. Drexel's low-residency MFA is distinguished by its emphasis on experiential learning and direct engagement with the publishing industry, connecting students with authors, agents, editors, publishers and other literary professionals.

Can berries help prevent some early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease?

During his summer research in the STAR Scholars program, Navneeth Nalajala, biological sciences ’30, found some early evidence that some solvents extracted from goji berries can kill 'cutibacterium acnes,' which cause early symptoms of the disease. It’s a relatively new area of research, and one that he hopes to continue working in throughout his time at Drexel.

Nalajala is a BS/MD student, meaning that he will complete his four years of undergrad at the College of Arts and Sciences and then go on to Drexel’s College of Medicine for another four years. He’s already been involved in research and jumped at the opportunity to do STAR.

“I think the most interesting thing that I loved was talking with my peers, because we’re all in the same boat, all trying to find something new,” Nalajala said. “A lot of times when my project wasn’t working or I had questions, I would turn to my peers in the lab, and they were able to help because a lot of things cross over.”

Drexel's Department of Physics is celebrating this year's Nobel Prize in Physics, which recognized Francis Halzen for his work on the IceCube Neutrino Observatory!

Professor Naoko Kurahashi Neilson, PhD, has been an integral part of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and its major discoveries for much of her career. Together with Teaching Professor Christina Love, PhD, and generations of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and undergraduates, she has helped to make Drexel’s Department of Physics an important part of IceCube’s scientific research.

🏆 Nobel Prize-winning science, with Drexel University at its core! For much of her career, Professor of Physics Naoko Kurahashi Neilson, PhD has been an integral part of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, whose discoveries earned recognition this week through the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics. Kurahashi Neilson's work has helped establish Drexel Physics as a key contributor to groundbreaking research that is transforming our understanding of the universe.
