Today was a special day for our Diesel Tech students. They received Snap-On tools purchased with funds from the Roundhouse Grant. Diesel first year students received a BluePoint 100 piece general mechanics tool set for labs and future employment. Diesel second year students received a 1/2 torque angle torque wrench and slip joint pliers for use in labs and at work. Nearly all of the second year students are currently employed in the Diesel industry so the tools they received today will be put to work right away, while several of the first year students are employed in the diesel industry most will start looking for a job in the near future to meet the requirements for their summer co-op and these tools will help them to get hired and started in this field. A beginning Diesel technician needs an initial investment of around $1800 to $8,000 in professional grade tools to have what they need in order to get started in this field. Getting tools for the trade like they got today will help them achieve that goal much easier and hopefully relieve some of the financial stress that goes along with starting a career as a Diesel technician. Over time Diesel technicians can easily invest up to $100k in tools so this investment in tools today will be a lifelong investment in their futures.

Viewers are confronted with the humanity of homelessness. Drawings and sculptures give faces and identity to people who are relegated to the outsides of society. These introspective images asks each one of us to reconsider our notions of the poverty surrounding us. From learning English to launching a career in healthcare, Xiaofeng's journey at Chemeketa is a story of determination, perseverance, and the power of a little help along the way!

Just one year ago, Xiaofeng was taking English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes at Chemeketa, uncertain about what her future might hold. Today, she's celebrating an incredible achievement: passing both her Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy final exams and becoming a certified Medical Assistant!

"I never imagined that by August of this year, I would have passed both my Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy final exams and become a certified Medical Assistant," Xiaofeng shared.

Getting there was anything but easy. As a mother of three, Xiaofeng faced the challenges of balancing childcare, household responsibilities, and a demanding eight-month Medical Assistant program at Chemeketa's Yamhill Valley Campus in McMinnville. Her daily commute took nearly two hours round-trip, and with English as her second language, she often needed extra time to master the material.

"Between school, taking care of three children, housework, homework, and studying, there was very little free time," she explained. "I often studied until 1 or 2 in the morning."

One of her biggest obstacles was the cost of childcare. Fortunately, Chemeketa's Student Emergency Fund provided assistance that allowed her to remain in school and continue pursuing her dream.

"The support from the Student Emergency Fund helped me solve this major problem and made it possible for me to continue going to school," Xiaofeng said.

Throughout the program, Xiaofeng developed hands-on clinical skills, from drawing blood and administering injections to performing EKGs and other medical procedures. She also gained valuable experience working directly with patients during her clinical externship.

Looking back, Xiaofeng knows every late night, every mile driven, and every sacrifice was worth it.

"I have never worked so hard for something in my life, but all of that hard work paid off. I did it! Becoming a Medical Assistant is an important turning point in my life."

Xiaofeng's story is a wonderful reminder that sometimes the difference between giving up and achieving a dream is having the right support at the right time.

Thanks to the generosity of those who support Chemeketa students, programs like the Student Emergency Fund help remove financial barriers and make life-changing accomplishments possible.

Storm Women's Soccer Team Charges Toward Southern Region Title in Thrilling Regular Season Finish

The Chemeketa Storm women’s soccer team is riding an unstoppable wave of momentum as the 2026 NWAC regular season reaches a dramatic climax. Holding a commanding 9-1-2 league record (11-2-2 overall), the Storm have officially clinched a playoff berth—but they aren't settling for just a post-season spot.

With the region crown within arm's reach and just two high-stakes matches left, Chemeketa sits just 1 single point behind first-place Lane Community College. The stage is set for an epic, wire-to-wire finish where every pass, tackle, and goal will dictate postseason seeding and championship glory.

Pack the Stand at the New Home Field
Storm fans have a historic opportunity to bring the noise this Friday, October 23, at 5:00 PM. Chemeketa defends its brand-new home soccer field against Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOC) in the final regular-season home game. A massive home crowd and loud support will give the squad the ultimate edge to secure three vital points before the final showdown.

The Ultimate Regular Season Finale
It all comes down to Wednesday, October 28, at 5:00 PM. The Storm will travel to Eugene to face off directly against division-leading Lane Community College. With Lane holding a razor-thin 1-point cushion, this regular-season finale is a winner-take-all battle for top playoff seeding and ultimate bragging rights.

Come out Friday, wear your Storm colors, and help propel Chemeketa to victory!

We invite your input on opportunities and priorities in Oregon higher education!

Today, the Higher Education Coordinating Commission’s lead consultant for the House Bill 4124 higher education revitalization study, EY-Parthenon, has launched the House Bill 4124 Study Public Survey. We encourage you to participate and to help us to share this survey widely in Oregon!

EY-Parthenon is seeking input from students, faculty, staff, employers, legislators, community members, and other interested parties as part of the HB 4124 study of Oregon’s public postsecondary education system. This short survey asks you to respond to four questions related to the 4124 study as well as your connection/affiliation with the higher education system. Your feedback will help identify challenges, opportunities, and priorities for Oregon’s public postsecondary education system and will be considered alongside other research and engagement methods as recommendations are developed for the future of public higher education in Oregon.

In addition to the survey, numerous additional processes of engagement, analysis, and collaboration are underway as HECC works toward the higher education revitalization study called for by HB 4124. The HECC has established a collaborative structure for the implementation of this legislatively-driven process, including an Advisory Group, regional meetings, consultant support, a student voices group, faculty and staff focus groups, a legislative roundtable, and an academic and fiscal leadership table.

Well, a deal is a deal!

Our Chemeketa women's volleyball team gave it their all against Mt. Hood Community College, but the Saints came out on top. And that meant President Jessica Howard had to make good on her friendly wager and proudly (well, maybe not proudly) sport a Mt. Hood jersey!

As you can see, the Saints' mascot was kind enough to console her during this difficult moment.

We'll get 'em next time! Go Storm!
