Age is just a number — especially when you're setting up a fourth-quarter sack. 🏈

SJCC defensive lineman Justin Buzzard, a 47-year-old South Bay pastor and father of three, got his first career college football snaps Saturday against College of the Redwoods, capping a comeback story that's captured national attention. On a third-down blitz, Buzzard helped spring linebacker Kyler Headley for the sack — then made sure the QB stayed down.

SJCC came together to celebrate love, diversity, inclusion, and community at Silicon Valley PRIDE!

Our SJCC community proudly joined thousands of community members in celebrating the LGBTQ+ community across the South Bay. From the energy and pride to the smiles and connections, it was an incredible day of coming to together to celebrate! 🌟🏳️‍🌈

"It felt more like family." 💜💛

That's how Nancy Torres describes SJCC's Reentry Peer Mentor Certificate Program — a free college program that's been changing lives for eight years running.

Offered in partnership with the County's Office of Diversion and Reentry Services, the program helps people reentering the community from jail or prison earn a certificate in drug and alcohol peer mentorship. Many go on to become Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors, using their own hard-won experience to help others battling addiction.

This year's graduating class included Nancy, Mauro Berduzco, and Julio Sanchez — each with their own story of recovery, and each now looking to give back.

"There are people who are so lost and don't realize they have talents and gifts," Mauro said. "Peer mentoring is a spark of hope for people who don't even know where to start."
