Congratulations to San José State University Director of Special Collections and Archives, Craig S. Simpson, for his newly published book, "Television Is Where You Find It" (Rutgers University Press 2026), a critical study examining feature filmmakers who worked in television between 1955 and 1990.

Through ten compelling case studies featuring directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, Orson Welles, Ida Lupino, Melvin Van Peebles, and Martin Scorsese, Simpson explores how these filmmakers transformed the language of television through innovation, artistry, and cinematic vision.

Film scholar James Naremore praised the book as “a rare joy—informative, critically important, and pleasurable.”

You may recognize our graduating 📱Social Media Student Assistant, Debbie 26' Communication Studies from our social media page and events she's covered.📽️ Now, we cover her time here at our King Library.

"I've always wanted to work in a space where I can be creative but also collaborate with people I can bounce off ideas from! I feel like going from customer service and care giving jobs to social media was a huge jump but I felt absolutely welcomed and encouraged to explore with my ideas."🤔💭

Through all the content she's been a part of, there are definitely some that have resonated with her more than others. "One of my favorite reels that I collaborated on with Alex was on a trend I was really hoping to do and didn't think we would get around to was the 'We're the MLK Library, of course we have....' and it segued into some of the unique things I wanted to show of our library! Other ones I had a lot of fun collaborating on was our Halloween reel🎃 and one where we gave people a glimpse into some of Mel Chin's art that are scattered around our library! I hope people learned a lot from them and enjoyed watching the content as much as I had fun making them!"🤗

🎊Congratulations Debbie! Thank you for connecting current and former Spartans to what our King Library has to offer! We hope to see you around and we look forward to what's in store for you beyond!💙💛

Designs don't pop out of thin air🌬️, a lot of them pop out of the collaborative mind of our graduating Graphic Design & Communications Student Assistant, Anna 26' BFA Graphic Design and onto the SWAG, boards, flyers, and posts we all know and love.💙

Anna, being someone who has worked with a team, has been able to collaborate and really dive into what working with different creative minds💭 like herself where she states, "I learned a lot about the importance of community and culture. I got to contribute my work to so many events led by people from different backgrounds, and being able to help bring them to life was really inspiring. It showed me how meaningful it is to bring people together and celebrate our diverse communities."🤗

As you've seen Anna's work shine🌟 through our library floors and social media pages, there are some projects that spoke to her more than others. "My favorite project I worked on at the King Library was the promotional designs for 2026 Black History Month. Visually, it felt the most exciting to me, but it was also interesting to research different historical and cultural figures to thoughtfully curate who to include. It made the process both creative and educational in a fun way."👩‍💻

🎊Congratulations Anna! We loved having you on our team and although we will miss you, are excited to see your work continue to shine throughout your creative future!💛

💙The anticipated winner of our grad photoshoot package reel is here!💛

Fellow Spartan, Anushree Bhattacharya 26' Molecular Biology major and double minor in Bioinformatics and Chemistry, has definitely taken her studies to the next level here at our SJSU King Library.📚

"The MLK Library at SJSU has honestly been my go-to study spot throughout my journey," says Anushree. "It’s the ultimate “lock-in” environment, especially the silent floors where you can really focus and get things done. My favorite spot is the 5th floor, where study breaks, I walk around and end up reading about diverse cultures, social justice, and empowerment, which made the space feel inspiring, not just academic."🤗

Huge congratulations to Anushree on your achievement and for winning our Grad Photoshoot Giveaway!🎓

💌To all our recent grads, pay it forward to the next semester of confused and scared first-years by making a donation to help improve the SJSU King Library.👐 Generous contributions from potential donors like you help make small and big improvements that will help future students succeed!💻

Meet Engineering Librarian, Yuqi He!👩🏻‍🏫

She recently came out with a published article titled, ""From ‘Which Database?’ to ‘Under What Conditions?’: Teaching Critical Thinking Through Search Tool Selection in an AI Age""💻

We had the opportunity to do a quick interview on her work and her thoughts on database tools and AI.🤔 Don't forget to use your library's OneSearch for all your needs including locating your subject librarian!🔍

King Library continues to be the trusted space on campus for events, group hangs, and hardcore quite studying. 👀Look at these 2024/25 impact numbers:

🫶1,062 events/meetings in the library
💯60K study room bookings
📚1,381,516 visits to the library

As the semester is coming to a close, we look forward to sharing the 📊quantitative data for this year in how much SJSU depends on the King Library. But let's share the qualitative data as well! Hear from the School of Planning, Policy and Environmental Studies who hosted there ALL DAY symposium this past Tuesday. 🌳

🎤"MLK, Jr. Library's room 225 is the best place on campus to host an event. Library staff went above and beyond to support us during the planning and ex*****on of the event." - Director, School of Planning, Policy and Environmental Studies, Katherine Cushing

🎤"King Library continues to be my absolute favorite venue on campus for hosting events, even after 15 years! The spaces are consistently in excellent condition, the technology is modern and reliable, and the library staff are truly outstanding. They go above and beyond to accommodate our needs, and every experience we’ve had there has been overwhelmingly positive." - School Analyst Michelle Del Reál

🚨But that's not all! Each department has a dedicated 💙librarian, like Librarian Peggy Cabrera💛 who is engaged, supportive, and is ready to help students, staff, and faculty find the resources they need! 🧭

👏Thank you to our trusted campus partners for making the King Library the best space on campus for good vibes to discover the unexpected! 🪩
